Michael James Shaw Previews Papa Midnite And Tonight's CONSTANTINE

"In this first encounter, Constantine and [Papa Midnite] are after an object of great value and we both need it for different reasons and it's a pretty hard fight to get it."

Actor Michael James Shaw will portray Papa Midnite on tonight's episode of Constantine, airing at 10 PM EST on NBC. Ahead of tonight's episode, Shaw previewed the clash between his character and Matt Ryan's Constantine.

"In this first encounter, Constantine and I are after an object of great value and we both need it for different reasons and it's a pretty hard fight to get it. I don't know if I can say anymore than that, but it's a fun fight to watch between the two of us.

I enjoy [being Constantine's adversary and ally]. Even in Papa Midnite being an [ally], there's still a great amount of tension between the two of them. Nothing is ever completely resolved. I think that's the fun of it. How do you put whatever differences in your past aside to work for the greater good or maybe a greater evil -- Who knows? -- but that's the fun of it, the compromise and why one has to compromise."

As far as crafting Papa Midnite's backstory, Shaw says there haven't been any flashbacks filmed for his character yet but fans of Vertigo's Hellblazer comic will still be satisfied.

"No flashback opportunities yet, but there have been some moments of allusion to his past and I think it will all add up in the end. The fans of "Hellblazer" will definitely get their fill of Papa Midnite."

Constantine airs on NBC at 10 PM.

Cool. This show needs to improve quick though. It's okay but not great

I wish it was a cable show instead on AMC or Showtime for example

Thought the first-half of the pilot was good and then the back-half entered wtf territory. Those re-shoots didn't help, preferred the original.

@MarkJulian I completely agree

Like the show so far. Ryan is spot on as Constantine. Angelica Celaya, who plays Zed is gorgeous though, and was fun in the part. I look forward to seeing their interactions and how things end up storywise.

Still piss I missed the pilot...and I'll miss tonight's episode. Hopefully I can find some good quality on the interwebs between now and next Friday when I have TV again. Want to see this show.

This show has soooo much potential!! If it's cancelled, it will ONLY be NBCs fault!
If they are smart, they will move it to a different night.

The sad thing it is on the verge of being canceled, hopefully it will bounce back tonight.

@ComicsBornAndBred

While I do agree that NBC is (at first glance) an odd home for the show, it has ONLY been 2 shows so far. We're they perfect? No.
But for god's sake, give it a chance. Let the show's writers find their rhythm.

just 2 shows.
It doesn't suck.

Have to agree with @ ComicsBornAndBred. Good but not great. Hope the show stays on the air for a while.

@KrazyForKomix I never said it sucked. I said it needs to get better. I'm a huge Hellblazee fan. Sometimes I wish it had a more mature home such as cable but I like it

The farther it gets away from the tone of Grimm the better. I don't know if that's their plan, though.
But I'm right there with ya' – love the Vertigo comic, hope the show gets better!

Last week's episode really had an X-Files feel to it.
I hope we get more of that.

Would if I could...but internet where I live sucks... I'll be able to download, as it can download for hours. But streaming is horrible.
