David Slade Offers Up A Brief Update On Daredevil; Responds To Michael C. Hall Fan Cast!

Like The Wolverine and Deadpool, it appears that the reboot of Daredevil is yet another superhero project from Fox moving along at a snails pace, but for once, that may be a GOOD thing...

We've all been wondering for quite a while now how work was progressing on the planned Daredevil reboot, and the director of the upcoming reboot has taken to Twitter (you can find a link to his account by clicking below) to clear up the status of the movie at this current time.

Well, you can't really argue with that in all honesty! While a rushed production can still result in something excellent (see: X-Men: First Class) the fact that Slade is putting such focus into getting the script right first is surely for the best, especially after the disappointing 2003 version. All I can hope is that they're keeping a close eye on the new comic book series by writer Mark Waid and artists Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin, because the tone in that would make for a killer Daredevil flick! As usual, be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

UPDATE: Thanks to a heads up from our own "nailbiter11" we also have these Tweets from late last month, previously missed. What's interesting is that it's fan favorite Michael C. Hall who the fan caster chose in the first message that Slade replies to.

I just hope they stay away from Bullseye or Elektra this time around. I'm keeping hopes up for a good Daredevil movie. **crosses fingers**

@Spock: Because it shows that at least they're putting some thought into it, it's better than just pushing out crap for the sake of making money (Don't get me wrong, it probably WILL be crap but here's hoping it won't be -fingers crossed-)

My only problem with this movie is that it's starting with the Born Again plot. You shouldn't start or reboot/relaunch/reinvent/re-whatever-else-I'm-leaving-out a Daredevil movie franchise with that story, you should end the franchise with it. Well again, here's hoping...

Not really a guarantee that we'll see the movie anytime soon, Deadpool already has a script, director, producer, and star, but no progress lately.

We don't always need an origin movie. If they fill the need to show us an origin do it through flash backs or quick montage at the start of the movie.

imnotwearinghockeypants - 9/9/2011, 10:54 AM
Follow the Frank Miller origin story and you win. Don't put Daredevil in a costume until the final two minutes.

@ReillyParker Maybe they can go the Hulk route and do a seboot - loosely continuing where the first one left off, but still a reboot.
This is great news about the script, I'm hoping this will be good (which all of Fox's CBMs should be after First Class).

screw them...they are stalling because they didnt want marvel to get the rights back. Marvel/Disney lawyers need to demand some movement or give it back to marvel and let them do it....

Rights still need to go back to Marvel.. (even after First Class) I still have no faith in the company.

@EarthToOlu Yup, unless you count First Class as a reboot. :P To me, it's a little bit of both.

My all-time favourite Marvel character - and I DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH IT. Not for a moment. I can just hear the executives working on this now - and saying: How can we sell more toys?

@imnotwearinghockeypants: I say if they should start anywhere it'd be Millar's The Kingpin Must Die/Gangwar storyline, it's got just about everything that makes Daredevil great and establishes his rivalry with the Kingpin. Done right it could be a crime drama on the same level as the Batman movies. They should save Millar's The Man Without Fear Storyline as a Prequel.

@ SSiref

FOX has like a 100 year deal on their Marvel film licenses. Anything X-Men, Fantastic Four, or Daredevil related belongs to them for a long, long time. I

You know, I just recently re-watched the director's cut of the original, and I gotta say, I thought it was pretty solid.

Please oh please don't use the "kid suddenly know kungfu and does a backflip kick to beat a group of bullies" thing again. Unless you are Bruce Lee, this should be off-limits!

@Gusto- I actually like Superman Returns, but then again, I watched it right after I saw the Richard Donner cut of Superman so it actully made a bit more sense.

But it'll probably still have that stoopid flip-kick thing in it...

@ Gusto did u REALLY SAY Superman REturns, Really! That movie was such a farce. The Script was garbage, Basically Supes hits no one, we had a movie about land plot, Kevin Spacey played a good Lex & Brandon Supes. But really it wasn't that great!

@ReillyParker, Iam just saying not everying slow is good! But your point is taken!

I agree 100% with imnotwearinghockeypants. Man Without Fear is the script they need to use. Simply that.

@theBat81: Yes, the Daredevil Director's Cut movie is actually really good. It is a sign of those times that all the suspense and interest from the film was cut to make a shorter and more action-focused movie. Darn shame. The Director's Cut shows what Daredevil should have been; and it would have been more highly acclaimed had that version been relesed.

@forthesakeofnow

So very true. I'm constantly getting the Fox comic book movies mixed up. Just goes to show how unremarkable they are.

Regarding the Winehouse reference... those were some of the funniest parts in the Deadpool script. When she died, the first thing I thought was... oh no, now they'll have to cut those parts out of the script. Hopefully they'll keep the scenes and throw in Lindsey Lohan or some other trainwreck Hollywood type.

SudsMerrick
SudsMerrick - 9/9/2011, 12:55 PM
I'd really like Marvel to have the Daredevil option revert back because you know they could easily take the Avengers model and transfer it to other characters. Put out a Daredevil movie, put out a Punisher movie do a Daredevil/Punisher movie introduce Moon Knight or Luke Cage & Iron Fist, Blade. Do a street level Avengers style cross over.
