ShockTillYouDrop recently got the chance to sit down with Cabin In The Woods director Drew Goddard for the to talk about the blu-ray and DVD release of the film. Goodard co-wrote the script with Joss Whedon who took The Avengers from superhero team up film, to box office juggernaut. During the interview he was asked if he were given the opportunity, which Marvel character would he like to develop. While he didn't name a specific character, he did say it's all about what the right fit is. Said Goddard, "What Marvel character would I not love to get on? That's an easier question to answer. I would love any of it and I love Marvel, Joss and what they're doing. It's all about finding the right fit. Directing, in order to do your job right, you have to find ways to make it personal, and if we can find the right fit, then I would love to do it." Goddard has talked in the past about his love for Daredevil. The rights for The Man With Out Fear are set to revert back to Marvel soon, so it would seem if he is wanting that film, having Joss Whedon in your corner should help. Yes, he should direct Daredevil. Can't get a better choice than a good director who's a fan of the source material.

CitW was an incredible film. A very satirical, tongue-in-cheek take on the horror genre... very well directed. I had the pleasure of meeting Drew at an advance screening of the film through my school -- he was a really nice guy. I'd love to see him direct DD.

@darkmetal:

But it wasn't a horror film. In fact, it's SUPPOSED to be a mockery of horror.

The whole point of the movie was to serve as a satirical jab at the absurdity of what the horror genre has become. Think of the ridiculous title... "Cabin in the Woods"? It's not serious. The film was a very subtle parody, unlike "Scary Movie", which beats you over the head with its jokes.

The characters were meant to be EXACTLY what you described... they were all stereotypical stock characters, molded around overused tropes.

Taken at face value, and viewing it as a standard horror film, I can see why you would be upset by it. And I don't blame you -- it was marketed as a typical horror flick and you had every reason to believe that's all it was. But watch it again, as the ironic meta-commentary it's meant to be -- you might see how brilliant it really is!

I like cabin in the woods, for exactly what it was, a comedy. I could see him doing good with a great lakes avengers. Not that I'm excited to see a GLA movie, but it seems like he would fit. CITW was a parody of cheesy horror, and GLA is the same for comics. He could make it seem like it is a serious movie, when its really not. It would probably flop at the movies, flop on dvd/blueray, but I would definately watch it. It would definately be a cult classic, for nerds that get it.

He wouldbe perfect for Guardians of the Galaxy if James Gunn wasn't attached. But I can see him helming the Daredevil reboot.

I just facepalm-ed through to my brain @ darkmetal's comment.

In all fairness to darkmetal, all the ads I saw for this film billed it as horror. I just recently saw ads portraying the lighter side and the best parts of the film: Bradley Whitford & Richard "the man" Jenkins.

With all this facepalming, I hope you all have hand sanitizer at the ready. Some probably inadvertently stink-palm themselves. :P
