Variety says that New Regency and 20th Century Fox are eyeing a 2004 start on the Jennifer Garner Daredevil spin-off, Elektra, with scribes Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner to write the screenplay:

The scribes were hired off a strong draft of "Deathlok," a Paramount-based adaptation of another Marvel Comics title about a man who is transformed into a machine.

The scribes pitched their take to Garner. The actress, who's toplining "13 Going on 30," sparked to the story and is onboard. The film will be produced by the "Daredevil" troika of Horseshoe Bay partners Mark Steven Johnson and Gary Foster, and Marvel's Avi Arad.

Garner's presence in the spinoff answers the question of whether her character got killed at the close of "Daredevil." The film picks up her curvaceous assassin as she recovers from that near-death experience and battles the Hand, the organization of killers that trained her and then turned against her.

The pic relies heavily on the Frank Miller-created "The Elektra Saga," and a central character will be a martial arts trainer named Stick. He's been a venerable Marvel figure.

The trade goes on to mention that the studio will look for a director as soon as the script is complete.
