DEADPOOL 2 Director Reveals How It Ties To The X-MEN Movies And Disney/Fox Deal Ramifications

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has shed some light on how the sequel will link up to the wider X-Men Universe and weighs in on the impact the Disney/Fox deal could have on the Merc with the Mouth...

Deadpool 2 could very well be the final Deadpool movie set in Fox's X-Men Universe as Disney's acquisition of the studio looks set to conclude by next summer. That means the studio will never get chance to make the likes of X-Force and Deadpool 3 but there is still a chance the Merc with the Mouth will live on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, what does director David Leitch make of this deal?

"I think it'll be exciting for fans. What I like about Deadpool is I think that the more you can put Deadpool in a box, the more he wants to push outside of it. Pairing him with people that you think would confine him, it's a challenge to be irreverent, and it's a challenge to keep the same sort of subversive nature. I think there's something interesting about that. I don't know. Who would he pair with? Captain America, that'd be pretty funny. I don't know. There are definitely some people. I mean, I'm a fan of that sort of whole Marvel universe. I think you could just throw a dart at a board and put Deadpool next to them, and it would be funny."

There's no denying that seeing characters like Captain America and Spider-Man interact with Deadpool will be a lot of fun but we have no idea whether or not Kevin Feige intends on rebooting the hero.

After all, randomly throwing him into the mix could be hard to pull off without first laying the groundwork for how mutants are going to factor into the MCU. As for how Wade Wilson fits into the X-Men Universe, the director went on to say that we should expect more references to that in the sequel.

"I think because we needed to expand the world, in terms of where we were going to be, obviously on the day and date, but also because Deadpool's got to go somewhere," Leitch said. "So yeah, he's part of the X-Men lore. We did find some natural tie-ins, and I think it's really going to be fun."

Daredevil would work very well with someone who has a stick up their butt, like Cap. Most of the X-Men fall into that category, too. Wade can bounce off Cap in weird and hilarious ways. I don't know if the comics have ever paired the Merc With A Mouth and the Super Soldier, but I think it could be a lot of fun in the MCU.

To be honest they wouldn't have to change anything about Deadpool. They could just have him be in the MCU. He's that sort of 4th wall-breaking character anyway.

I would personally love to write a movie with Deadpool and Tom Holland's Spider-Man, I'm thinking an R rated college themed horror comedy that's a mix between Animal House and 30 Days of Night revolved around Peter in college who's at odds with Deadpool after finding out he's the latest Avenger and he's dating Aunt May but they're forced to work together in order to stop Morbius and his army of vampires.

It would be funny to see Deadpool enter the MCU and complain about everything.

He makes great points, which are ironic considering I'm excited for everything in DP except Deadpool

@OmegaDaGrodd - I'm worried about how they'll portray Juggernaut if the rumors are true.

@Thanoswasright - I'm really not. I think having high expectations of a Fox movie or any Deadpool material is a risky decision because neither are reliable or have your best interests at heart

Leitch seems to really appreicate and be aware of the opportunity for the merger to work on a character level. Thats great.

Iger said he would keep Deadpool rated r, so lets see if he will keep his word.

@BlackBeltJones - I’m going to go ahead and call bullshit.

I will eat crow if wrong.

Not sure how that expression started, doesn’t make my sense whatsoever.

@BloodyBed - he said it during some Disney panel when the sale became big news and was really moving forward.

I wouldn't mind the MCU absorbing the x-men and having deadpool live in his own bubble like he does now at Fox. Slight connection and references. Occasional cameos.

will Deadpool actually meet the adult X-Men soon?

or will he just interact with teenagers x-men (from decades ago) randomly, just because?

The beauty of Deadpool is that they could easily keep Ryan Reynolds as DP and just plop him into the action and let him make comments on the fact that everything is the same, yet different... and everyone around him thinks he is just a crazy hero while we know the deeper truth. Even if they have plans for Negasonic and Domino and recast them... it could just work because... Dead-Poo-L. ;-)
