Ever since the two characters first appeared together in the poorly-received
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans have been clamouring for Ryan Reynolds'
Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's
Wolverine to meet again on the big screen, especially after having very little screentime with each other. Though Jackman proclaimed
Logan to be his final spin as the character, it didn't stop Reynolds from campaigning heavily for a post-
Logan meet-up between the two. Jackman, while interested, didn't seem as keen.
“I’m hesitating,” he previously told Variety,
“because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit.” The actor also cautioned that
“the timing may be wrong.”
Now, it seems that Jackman has put a permanent nail in the coffin when it comes to his inclusion in a team-up featuring the two comic icons. The actor recent conducted a live Facebook Q&A, and when asked about the possibility of a reunion with Reynolds, gave a definitive answer.
"No, and Ryan is currently sleeping outside my house. Look, if that movie had appeared 10 years ago, probably a different story, but I knew two and a half years ago that this was the last one. The first call I made was to [Logan director James Mangold]. I said, ‘Jim, I got one more shot at this,’ and as soon as Jim came up with the idea and we worked on it, I was never more excited. But, it feels like the right time. Deadpool, go for it man, do your thing. You don’t need me."
While this isn't unexpected in the slightest, it's a little disappointing that the two actors won't be able to have their characters meet again in a less haphazard fashion. Guess we will have to wait for a recast! Would you have liked to see Jackman and Reynolds in one more
X-Men film together? Sound off below!
