Ryan Reynolds Reveals Why He Prefers DEADPOOL's Costume Over GREEN LANTERN's

Ryan Reynolds will obviously be wearing an actual costume as Deadpool in the 2016 movie, a pretty huge departure from the mo-cap suit he had to don for Green Lantern. As it turns out, he wasn't a fan of that process, and didn't even see the suit until the first teaser trailer...

During production of Deadpool, we got to see a ton of set photos featuring Ryan Reynolds fully suited up as the fan-favourite character. The costume is 100% practical, though whether or not the eyes of the mask will end up being CGI so he can emote remains to be seen. Regardless, during a recent interview with Screen Rant, the actor was quick to talk about why he's so much happier to be wearing an actual costume this time around (the second time he's playing a superhero).

Asked which he preferred between Green Lantern and the Merc with the Mouth, he told the site:

"Oh, ‘Deadpool,’ you can’t even compare – I mean, it’s brutal doing a film where you’re wearing a motion capture suit for the whole time. Just as an actor it’s brutal, but like – a lot of people relate to [Deadpool] because he has cancer. So we worked a lot with the Make a Wish Foundation and those kids would come on set, and I loved hosting them. Because when I’d walk out in that suit, you’d watch their minds explode, and that felt amazing. And that’s something I never really got to experience before because there was no Green Lantern suit. I didn’t even get to see the Green Lantern suit until the first trailer. I never even knew what it looked like. So [‘Deadpool’] was a pretty great experience. I love having the tactile, real deal, all the time."

When the Green Lantern costume first debuted, it was widely ridiculed, especially as the CGI in that first trailer wasn't really all that great. Despite that, it's not hard to see where Reynolds is coming from here (though here's hoping that Warner Bros. don't go down the special effects route for the next Hal Jordan's Green Lantern suit). I like how they're going to deal with cancer in the film and having ill kids on set is a tear jerker. Hopefully this gives young patients some confidence. Then again, it's rated R and kids will probably never see the movie lol

I'm glad that Reynolds get to have his superhero film done with some care and passion. I can't speak the same high opinion of Green Lantern (2011).

However, I think that Warner Bros. now have people like Zack Snyder involved in a great deal of their Extended Universe and I think we'll see the same amount of care and passion put into their properties. That being said, I have no doubt in my mind GL's costume will be, for the most part, practical and something that can be physically worn by the actor (hopefully that actor's Chris Pine).

I can understand the logic behind having a CGI Green Lantern outfit but it just wasn't executed well.

Look at Friday Night Lights and True Detective. The characters he tends to play have a lot of key similarities with Hal Jordans.

i guess so. I don't really buy this idea that motion capture and digital effects crimps an actor's ability to act because a lot of stuff isn't physically there and so you have to use your imagination a lot more. isn't that pretty much what theater is? you're not on location, there's no actual castle being besieged, in the background there's no enemy army clashing with my army, the sword isn't quite heavy enough when i swing it, etc. i just dont agree with this idea. in fact, casting directors for movies or videogames often look specifically for actors who have a lot of stage experience and the reason is because the two experiences are very similar in their demands.

@campblood

Lmao. In Friday night lights he played a cocky, pussy fiend with redeeming qualities. Like not letting the little guy get picked on. If I wasn't retarded I'd try and pull up a clip. And the stuff in True detective shows he can play up having a troubled past ( like Hals fathers' plane crash and his mom dying of cancer, and Hal never having made peace with that.)
