Deadpool has been in development for years and a lot of fans are wondering if the film ever going to happen. At a press junket for Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds talked about his love for the character and explained that the film is STILL in development.

Said Reynolds:

"Growing up, I read a bit of X-Men stuff and I loved Deadpool. You know, my brother introduced me to Deadpool and that was a character I loved, but beyond that I didn't know that much about comics. Those are the ones I kind of stuck to."

"Deadpool is a character that I love and I got a great opportunity to play him in more of ancillary sense in a film, which was great because it allowed me to jump in and play him, but then not be committed to too much beyond that. But I do have that film that's in development still, so we'll see what happens with that."

Reynolds went on to say that playing Deadpool was a privilege, and that playing Green Lantern was the role of a life time, saying "For the most part, Green Lantern's the first kind of iconic superhero role that I've ever had the great opportunity to play. I'm pretty damn grateful for that."

Catch Reynolds in Green Lantern on June 17, 2011.

I'd love to see it happen, but he seems to be unsure whether it will or not. I'm leaning towards "this isn't happening" either. Least not for awhile.

Deadpool has got a pretty big fanbase. Plus with him being in the newish Spidey game and Marvel vs Capcom, I'm sure he's gained more fans with his "moonwalking" ;D

This film would a hit if done right. Something new for the CBM genre. Should have a crossover with Lobo and have some epic fight scenes! xD

I dont see this movie happening anytime soon. If WB/DC was smart they would keep Reynolds occupied with the future Green Lantern installments, which I believe they are going to do. But if Reynolds cant play Deadpool I think Sean William Scott would be perfect for Deadpool if not the Flash.

Love Ryan Reynolds, but we need a reboot for 'Pool.
Maybe directed by Danny Boyle, or Robert Rodriguez, or even Del Toro would be cool.

For the part of Deadpool, I'd like an unknown, or maybe Jason Statham, Clive Owen, or even Ben Foster.

I Bet once Green Lantern Becomes a hit, Fox will release the handbrakes on DeadPool to capitalize on the popularity of Ryan Reynolds

Sean William scott resembles Deadpool's annoyance to others !
I love your pick "thedarksideofthedarkknight" !
I would chose Ben Stiller instead ! hoho, he was rip in Tropic Thunder, he can do some good action comedy I believe.

Bradley Cooper for Deadpool. Even though I don't see why it's so important for this character to get to the big screen.

Let's have a character that's actually earned the right to get on the big screen, rather than a watered down funny guy, AKA Marvels Biggest Whore.

I highly doubt RR had ever heard of Deadpool till he auditioned for the part; much less read a comic book or any book for that matter. Keep spewing that bovine diarrhea pizza boy. I would go with someone with talent who can act AND be a wise ass. This movie will just end up being Van Wildpool.

@ jackdafreak, sean williams scott wouldn't be a horrible idea. I don't want to see ryan as deadpool though. its kinda lame that he gets to play more than one "superhero" even if they don't occupy the same universe.

@N: If there's a new version of the same character, that is called a REBOOT.

Why dont you learn how to read before posting your snide, "funny" comments about other people's posts.

It has potential to be a cult hit though, it's different to anything else out there at the minute. Plus there is a lot of Deadpool exposure right now and besides, how many people outside of comics really knew Blade, Ghost Rider or Daredevil?

And there are articles from well before X-Men: Origins of Reynolds talking about playing Deadpool, one here from 2005 of him talking about a David Goyer script for it, so i believe that he is a fan, and i think it will show through the way he plays Deadpool.

Not to mention that, has anyone seen him in Blade Trinity? They changed Hannibal King in order to add a form of comic relief, and ended up turning him into Deadpool without realizing it. Badass with guns? Constantly talking and making wise ass comments? Other characters express annoyance at his pressence? And even when being tortured he continues insulting and making his jokes? With the only time he's silent is when a small child is threatened before him? Its like they read as many Deadpool comics as possible and just wrote him in, but changed his name to Hannibal for the sake of that character. Who played this Deadpool-like character? Ryan. Reynolds. The dude is perfect for the role.
