Just for those saying SS has broken even :

@fettastic - from your own article :

When calculating a marketing budget, the rule of thumb is to spend 50 percent of the rest of the production costs (pre-production, filming and post-production) [source: Vogel]. So if a movie costs $100 million to make, you'll need an additional $50 million to sell it.

Jeez. Math isn't your strong suit there buddy. See, 50% of 175 million is 87.5 million, not 50.

175+87.5=262.5 million.

US box offfice : 238 million, of which the studio gets 50% = 169 million.

Overseas box office : 243 million, of which the studio gets on average about 33% = 81 million.

So right now, the studio has gotten 200 million, off of a 262.5 million investment, which is very generous because that is the reported prod. budget assuming it didn't pass that, and it's assuming your 50% estimate, while many other sites say marketing budgets are usually more than 50% .

FYI, Man of Steel had a reported prod budget of 225 million that actually turned out to be 258 million (+14%), and its marketing budget was about 149 million. About 2/3s of the reported production budget.

Numbers like those for SS would mean a real prod budget of 200 million and a marketing budget of about 117 million, meaning WB spent 317 million, of which they've gotten back 200 million. So no, it definitely has NOT broken even.

Assuming the roughly 50/50 foreign/domestic split SS has had, it would need to gross 377 million domestic and 385 foreign for a 762 million worldwide total to break even.

Add overheads and participations and you get about 800 million.

So it will break even, thanks to home release + TV deals, but it won't break even on box office alone.

This cardigan is so awesome. I love cardigans. AND it's a tad Dead Pool one? Love love love.

The $75 price tag stings a bit though. Was hoping it would be more like $40 - $50.
