Why Ryan Reynolds needs to play Deadpool and why fans need to pressure FOX into getting the movie made already

The multiple reasons as to why the Deadpool movie will only come to be if the fans start pressuring FOX into getting the movie done, and why Ryan Reynolds is the perfect fit for the role.

The Deadpool movie's been 'under development' for a long time now, and each time we hear something new about it, it's some sort of completely useless news (such as directors or actors saying it'll happen, but never saying when) or not so useless news that fire up a spark on the matter (like the aquisition of a director no one knows) only to have that spark die out after another six or more months of radio silence. It's more than enough to make any fan lose hope altogether that this movie's ever being made.

But X Men Origins: Wolverine happened a long time ago, and since then many other good super hero movies saw the light of day (not that X Men Origins: Wolverine was good). Some of them were rated R and became even successful franchises, such as Kick Ass. So why is Fox still so afraid of making an R-rated Deadpool movie? They have an amazing script, an actor who's said over and over again he's willing to play the part, and a director. X Mex First Class was a big hit, and after the backlash on Wolverine Origins they're bound to get it right this time. It's been said over and over again that everything's set, it just depends on the studio to give the green light. So why don't they?

A more optimistic opinion might say they're waiting until Ryan Reynolds' schedule clears out, being that he's involved in RIPD and a few other projects for the next few months. Maybe they really want him to play Wade, as most of us fans do, but that's a really optimistic approach on the matter. But on the other hand, it might be a good option to make sure he's in it, because Ryan Reynolds has proven over and over again he's the right fit for the role. We've all seen his acting abilities, we've even seen him as Wade himself, and a solo Deadpool movie is the perfect one to really get Ryan Reynolds to prove himself as an actor, not only because he will portray a physically and mentally scarred man, but because the character has so many layers that can possibly be explored.

A more pessimistic (and realistic) view is that FOX is scared of doing an R-rated super hero movie. And it's completely unfounded, because it's been proven many times that comic book fans aren't afraid of R-rated movies. Just look at Kick Ass and it's success. So why is Fox so afraid of it? The Deadpool movie will have a huge fan base, possibly even bigger than Kick Ass, considering it's a much older character and possibly more well known. All of the fans are waiting for this movie, and if they really start making sure that Fox knows they want this movie sometime before Ryan Reynolds turns 50, just like they made sure Fox knew they weren't happy with Deadpool's portrayal in X Men Origins: Wolverine, it might serve as an extra incentive for the studio to green light the movie.

KnightofSteel-

Deathstroke should be the villain in a Green Arrow movie.

@AcidicHeart and KnightofSteel- Completely agree. Besides Deadpool is just a Deathstroke rip-off anyway. So i don't see what all the fuss is about with whether or not the guy gets a movie.

Deathstroke is much more deserving of the big screen treatment

@LEVITIKUZ Deadpool and Spider-Man are nothing alike.

Spider-Man: A teenage orphaned genius who suffers a life of losing loved ones (his parents, his uncle, his first girlfriend) who gains spider themed superpowers after being bitten by a scientifically altered spider. He then uses his power as a super hero in order to prevent others from suffering the losses he's suffered.

Deadpool: A crazy person who was emotionally abused by his parents, given the power to heal himself in an experiment to try and cure his terminal cancer, is horrifically disfigured and driven insane by the procedure, finds it hard to keep his mouth shut and is fully aware of his own nature as a comic book character, he becomes a mercenary willing to kill almost anyone so long as he's paid enough. He falls in love with the personification of Death, and so is cursed by a jealous Thanos to never be able to die. He also believes that he deserves to be an Avenger, apartment-shares with a teenage genius (Weasel, who has far more in common with Spider-Man except that he's a coward and Spidey's courageous, they were even in school together) and a blind woman he kidnapped, and also has a fondness for cheese puffs.

The only real similarities are their use of humour, although even that is different, because Deadpool wants to ammuse himself and his audience (the person reading the comic) because he's a show-off, while Spidey's wise-cracks are more of a defense mechanism, a way of venting his stress, and also to intimidate his foes. You could also say their costumes are somewhat similar, but then that's a stretch of the imagination - you could say the same about Black Panther or Daredevil in comparison to Batman, or Captain Marvel/Shazam in comparison to Superman.

Deadpool is closer to Deathstroke - in fact he is a semi-rip-off of Deathstroke, but with added crazy and humour.

Deadpool is a "semi ripoff" of Deathstroke?

1. Very similar costumes.

2. Both mercenaries.

3. Both fight with a mix of guns and blades.

4. Both have healing factor.

5 Both were the arch nemesis of teenage super teams early in their comic careers. Stroke fought the Teen Titans, Pool fought the New Mutants.

6. Both have been known to team up with their respective enemies and fought on the side of the good guys on more than one occasion.

And if that isnt enough, look at their names. Deathstroke is Slade Wilson, and Deadpool Wade Wilson.

It doesn't get any more deliberate than that. The guy is not a "semi-ripoff", he's as complete of a ripoff as there can possibly be.

The only difference is that over the years, the writers have made Deadpool a complete lunatic, really ever since he discovered he is a character in a comic book.

Anything created by Rob liefeld shouldn't be regarded as anything below shit. And to think that hack was the 3rd biggest name in comics after Todd Mcfarlane and Jim Lee in the 90's.

I just cant stand that every comic he shows up in automatically takes a huge turn for the moronic.

Like Doom War. That story was going great until they had to throw Deadpool in. Then it just lost all seriousness.

The only thing that I've actually liked Deadpool in, in the last 10 years was X-Force. But they didnt write him like a 12 year old either. They had the perfect balance of him being crazy, without being over the top and ruining the tone of the book. Very few writers are able to do that with him.

@CorndogBurglar- AMEN BROTHER!!! Thank you for disputing the ridiculous claim by Acirca that Deadpool is a "semi" ripoff.

Deadpool is so much like Deathstroke, I would almost consider them the same character if not for Deadpool being goofy and that was only done DELIBERATELY to differentiate him from Deathstroke. Sad :)

I'm a Deathstroke fan.

I DESPISE Deadpool. Completely unoriginal idea. He's nothing.

@Gamma- "Deadpool haters" psh. The character sucks, face it.

You marvel fans always diss us DC fans. Yet DEADPOOL the very character you are all chiming for to get a friggin MOVIE is a CLEAR rip-off of Deathstroke.

You Marvel fans should THANK us DC fans for giving you Deadpool

Either Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool (he was perfect as Wade Wilson at the beginning of the movie) or Sean William Scott. Either one of them would be perfect as Deadpool.

Yeah man, I have to agree with Acidic and Gamma.

I'm 31 years old and I've been reading comics since I was about 6. I grew up reading Marvel, so I'm definately a Marvel fan, more so than DC.

HOWEVER, I'm a fan of good comics, when you get right down to it. Most of my collection is Marvel, but I also have about 50 or DC trade paperbacks that I've collected over the years. I'm just a fan of good stories.

And in the case of Deadpool, even though he is a Marvel character, you have to call a spade a spade. The guy is clearly a rip off. :)

These are links to a series of articles I did a little over a year ago called "Who Ripped Off Who?"

Each one shows multiple examples of characters that have been ripped off, or inspired by other characters. You should give them a look. I think they're pretty informative. :)

As long as they dont include Colossus and the obscure references to X-Origins, this would probably be the only FOX CBM I would pay money to see in theaters. Chances are still very slim as I dont want to support FOX as a whole but I do love me some Wade Wilson. I think RR could really stretch his wings and push the envelope of madness instead of just snark and punch-lines, but of course, there are so many factors, I wouldnt be able to blindly fall in line like I can with the MCU.

The upcoming X movies should be
2013: The Wolverine
2014: X-Men: Days of Future Past
2015: Deadpool
2016: Wolverine 3 (depending on how good THE WOLVERINE is)
2017: X-Men: First Class 3 (again, depending on how good DOFP is)
While the idea of WB releasing 1 DC movie is not good, 1 X movie per year or every other year could work well if they are quality films.

First of all Yes, Deadpool was a rip off of Deathstroke, let's get that out of the way. His character was intentionally a joke. Never to be taken serious. It was funny because it was a direct ripoff. However, he blew up. They continue to use his spoofed comic realtion with the audience because, it's original. Now what DC character can perfectly pull that off?...

Plus,
I think Ryan Reynolds is a great actor and has comic abilities but he has a dry sense of humor and can't come off with the natural comedian talents like Sean William Scott, look at American Pies, Cop Out... Like that's perfect risky humor.

Good point I think it just comes down to a great director. The director of Wolverine:Origins obviously didn't know what he wanted
