ARTEMIS FOWL Will No Longer Be Released In Theaters And Is Instead Heading Straight To Disney+

Disney appears to have cut its losses with Artemis Fowl as it's been confirmed today that the Kenneth Branagh (THOR) helmed adaptation of the hit series of novels will instead premiere on Disney+...

Disney has today confirmed that Kenneth Branagh's live-action adaptation of Artemis Fowl is set to debut exclusively on Disney+. That means no theatrical, Digital, or DVD/Blu-ray release.

It's a surprising move on the studio's part...sort of. The trailers for the film have been panned by fans of the books, and no one seems overly excited to see the movie regardless. With that in mind, it appears as if Disney is cutting their losses, and it's honestly surprising the same hasn't been done with The New Mutants, all things considered.

"With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of ‘Artemis Fowl’ on Disney+," says Disney+ Content President Ricky Strauss.

"Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years," he continues. "It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney+’s summer lineup."

Artemis Fowl was originally scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 29th, 2020, and some sort of postponement was inevitable due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on the best-selling young adult book by Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl stars newcomer Ferdia Shaw in the title role alongside Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel. and Adrian Scarborough, with Colin Farrell and Judi Dench.

Disney still plans on releasing Soul in June and who knows if theaters will open up by then. They should move that one to Thanksgiving and delay Raya and the Last Dragon to either Summer or Fall 2021

@MovieMonster - Yeah, Soul looks [frick]ing amazing, if it wounds up bombing because Disney wants the first movers advantage when cinemas are up and running again it'd be a bummer
