It's been a while since we've had any updates on this one, but THR Has now confirmed that the Beauty and the Beast prequel show we first heard about last year is now officially moving forward as an 8-episode Disney+ miniseries.
Tentatively titled The Little Town (we're not sure if that's stuck), Josh Gad and Luke Evans are set to reprise their roles as LeFou and Gaston, respectively, from Disney's mega-successful live action adaptation of the classic tale. Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar) is also on board as LeFou’s step-sister, Tilly.
The story is set to follow Gaston and LeFou as they "set off with Tilly after a surprising revelation from her past surfaces, sending the unlikely trio on a journey filled with romance, comedy and adventure. While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbors many secrets."
“For anyone who’s ever wondered how a brute like Gaston and a goof like LeFou could have ever become friends and partners, or how a mystical enchantress came to cast that fateful spell on the prince-turned-beast, this series will finally provide those answers … and provoke a whole new set of questions,” said Disney Branded Television CCO Gary Marsh.
This would seem to suggest that Dan Stevens' Prince/Beast will also appear, and the possibility of a "guest spot" for both him and Emma Watson's Belle is mentioned.
Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz will serve as showrunners alongside Gad, who will also exec produce. Alan Menken will compose the soundtrack. Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed, Respect) will direct the pilot.
