It's been a while since we've had any updates on this one, but THR Has now confirmed that the Beauty and the Beast prequel show we first heard about last year is now officially moving forward as an 8-episode Disney+ miniseries.

Tentatively titled The Little Town (we're not sure if that's stuck), Josh Gad and Luke Evans are set to reprise their roles as LeFou and Gaston, respectively, from Disney's mega-successful live action adaptation of the classic tale. Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar) is also on board as LeFou’s step-sister, Tilly.

The story is set to follow Gaston and LeFou as they "set off with Tilly after a surprising revelation from her past surfaces, sending the unlikely trio on a journey filled with romance, comedy and adventure. While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbors many secrets."

“For anyone who’s ever wondered how a brute like Gaston and a goof like LeFou could have ever become friends and partners, or how a mystical enchantress came to cast that fateful spell on the prince-turned-beast, this series will finally provide those answers … and provoke a whole new set of questions,” said Disney Branded Television CCO Gary Marsh.

This would seem to suggest that Dan Stevens' Prince/Beast will also appear, and the possibility of a "guest spot" for both him and Emma Watson's Belle is mentioned.

Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz will serve as showrunners alongside Gad, who will also exec produce. Alan Menken will compose the soundtrack. Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed, Respect) will direct the pilot.

Man that premise makes it sound so unnecessary, but since Gad and Evans are actually both invested in this I might give it a chance (even if I didn't see the movie)

A prequel nobody asked for.

@Mysterion - No one ever asks for 90% of the movies that get made. This may be a bad idea for a project, but can we PLEASE kill this complaint?

Still offended they cut out the "every last inch of me's covered with hair" part in the remake

I think Evans is a solid actor. Would be cool to see him get a Marvel or DC project.

Luke Evans was the only one who made the movie watchable. Might check this out.

“For anyone who’s ever wondered how a brute like Gaston and a goof like LeFou could have ever become friends..."

Isn't the whole point that they aren’t actual friends? Gaston is a big brute, who enjoys having someone to boss around, while LeFou is a spineless nobobody, who is happy to hang around the town "hero."

Evans and Gad were great together as Gaston and LeFou, even if it does continue the Hollywood trend of casting gay/straight duos whose actors have the opposite sexualities of their characters.

This does seem a waste of time conceptually, though. And serve as a reminder that Luke Evans should have been Renly in Game of Thrones. But I'd still love to see him play a superhero.

The one thing I actually like about this is that Gaston in the movie is as vile as he was in the cartoon & this being a prequel to that they don't have the leeway to make him a better person, in the way Cruella or Maleficent went with their villains origins, he's going to end up being a narcissistic, glory hound a-hole murderer no matter what the show wants to do.

They're going to tell the tale of how Gaston got that fabulous red coat... and I'm here for that.

Not needed. Disney (not including marvel or starwars) should have a quota of one prequel every three years doesn't matter if it's animated or live action. Force them to come up with brand new content.
