Deadline has confirmed that
Mulan's planned European premiere in London has been cancelled. As you might expect, this is a result over concerns about the ongoing spread of the coronavirus.
However, while there will be no red carpet (with members of the media and photographers in attendance), the film will still be screened as a private event, presumably without the cast.
"In an abundance of caution, we are downscaling this evening's premiere of Mulan and will no longer have a media line or red carpet," Disney revealed in a statement to the trade earlier today. "We will, however, continue to host the premiere screening as a contained inside screening event."
As of right now,
Mulan is still being released worldwide on March 27th. However, its Chinese debut has already been delayed, and given what's happened to the likes of
A Quiet Place: Part II and
F9, it wouldn't be massively surprising for Disney to push this live-action adaptation of the animated classic back by a number of months depending on what happens over the coming few days.
Theaters remain open at the moment, but that's not the case in some countries, and
Black Widow's fate is also uncertain. The main advantage that film has is that it's still seven weeks away, and a lot could change in that time (hopefully for the better, but we simply don't know right now).
We'll keep you guys updated!
