Disney's trend of taking their animated films and turning them into live acton films looks like it won't be stopping soon. In fact it seems to be taking a step further then that.

First we got Maleficent, then we got Cinderella. Now along with other announcements that disney has made over the last few months we now have confirmation via Hollywood Reporter that Disney will be developing a live action prequel to the original 1992 classic Aladdin. The prequel shall be titled Genies. The film is said to be about the realm of Genies and will reveal how Aladdin's Genie ends up enslaved in the lamp.

The film is currently being produced by Trip Vinson, who recently was an excectutive producer on San Andreas and will be producing the upcoming film Prince Charming for the studio as well. While the film will be written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift who together have written both Freddy Vs Jason and the 2009 remake of Friday The 13th.

Although this new Genies project is currently in early devlopment the long term plan is to have this film lead into a Live Action Aladdin movie down the road.

Does this mean the guy playing Genie is going to be doing a Robin Williams impression the entire time? I hope not.

Yeah, no Tron 3 but here's the Aladdin prequel no one asked for right alongside Tim Burton's Dumbo.

Makes sense from a business perspective. People have proven they'll go see the live versions. Disney had some massive bombs the last few years with properties like Lone Ranger, John Carter, and Tomorrowland, so they might as well go back to what works.

Hopefully Disney uses Middle Eastern actors this time around. The last movie they did that took place in the Middle East was Prince of Persia and it felt off because they didn't get actors that represented that part of the world. It's too bad this isn't a live action version of Aladdin because Alexander Siddig would have been a perfect Jafar. Plus on another note wouldn't it be better to call the movie Jinns? I know it says the future movie could be about Aladdin, but if this fails that won't happen, so why not just make Aladdin instead?

Oh this is a mistake. They could've done a little more serious live action remake, and try and make the genie's roll very different so they don't have to live up to Robin Williams. Now you have to have someone literally play his character.

Stupid.
