Disney is looking to spruce up its live-action Aladdin remake by tapping former Game of Thrones scribe, Vanessa Taylor, to rewrite the script according to The Tracking Board.

Taylor will be working off of a John August draft that he wrote with director Guy Ritchie. August is still producing the picture with Dan Lin, which will begin production in London next month. Also on the producing team is Executive Producer Jonathan Eirich, with Marc Platt and Chris Montan consulting.

Ritchie recently found his lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine by casting Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, respectively. Joining the two leads is Will Smith, who will play the iconic Genie.

"She co-wrote the screenplay for the 2014 sci-fi action film Divergent."

As far as i can tell this is the only example of her ability in film other than a romantic comedy entitled 'Hope Springs' - a movie that got good reviews based on the actors rather than the writing.

@Scarilian - She also co-wrote Guillermo del Toro's next movie, The Shape of Water. They haven't released it online yet, but I got the trailer for it in front of Planet of the Apes, and it looked pretty good. We'll see how that goes.

like.. what's the point? will it even be funny? I don't care about humanizing the guy, or some fabricated hollywood backstory.

I would maybe be okay if they went just crazy with it, turn tommy into an alien or something.

So we have a director best known for violent British gangster films and now a writer from Game of Thrones? Yeah, this sounds like a great combination for a Disney kid's musical LOL :-)
