The first teaser trailer and a poster for Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are now online!

If you've been to see Spider-Man: No Way Home and stuck around for the post-credits scenes, you'll be familiar with this first footage from the Marvel Studios sequel, but it's nice to be able to take a closer look.

The events of No Way Home clearly set up the Master of the Mystic Arts' next solo outing, as we see Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) pay a visit to Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) to ask for her help in dealing with the repercussions of tampering with the Multiverse. It seems various creatures and villains have found their way to the MCU, including a one-eyed beast resembling Shuma-Gorath (but is more likely a version of Gargantos), and an evil Variant of Doctor Strange himself we first met in What If...?.

The trailer also gives us glimpses of Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, and Xochitl Gomez as the debuting America Chavez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.

Looks awesome, can’t wait!! Really enjoyed the first doctor strange, and now after no way home and what if, I can’t wait for this! I’m honestly impressed that Marvel is still crushing it

The posters are off to a great start! That looks sick!

Looks very different thematically and stylistically from what we’re used to in the MCU. Very sombre moods. Can’t wait, hope Raimi leans into the horror

@Cap1 - Hopefully this is just the beginning of Raimi's relationship with the MCU!

Maybe even give him the reigns on Tom's Spider-man 4 👀

Cap1 - 12/22/2021, 11:51 AM
@LongMayHeReign - fingers crossed! Spider-Man 4 would be a dream come true, but I think Garfield’s more likely to get his sequel than Maguire. Give him the 4th MCU Spidey film since Watts will be busy doing F4!

LongMayHeReign - 12/22/2021, 11:59 AM
@Cap1 - No that's what I meant, give him Tom's MCU Spidey 4 film and let Watts focus on F4.

Cap1 - 12/22/2021, 12:05 PM
@LongMayHeReign - shit sorry I misread ur comment. Think that could definitely be a plan! Although it may make it too clear how much Marvel/Feige interferes, since we have previous Raimi/Spidey movies to compare
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 12/22/2021, 12:32 PM
@Cap1 - I don't think Feige cares what people think about his process (and frankly he shouldn't). The man's built the most successful franchise ever, and for as talented as Raimi is his career hasn't maintained the status he achieved during his Spidey trilogy.

Plus it isn't like he hasn't heard all the comparisons already ever since Civil War and Homecoming.

This looks great! Saw SM NWH for the second time last night with 3 of my kids. It's definitely the film I'm most excited for for the remainder of Phase 4.

@batmbl - yup, they did a fantastic job setting that one up. Another billion easy. You know what would be insane? If it was more than just another billion. Spidey is avengers level now, I don’t see it making less than AoU. There not really surprising in terms of who we’re talking about. But Dr Strange? Can you imagine? That would be nuts

@TheWalkingCuban - The thing I liked the most about this film is that even though Strange was in it he wasn't in it too much and this was definitely Peter's (Peters) story (stories).

At first the previews with Strange for this I wasn't liking him at all, but in the end the motivations were still in character. It made me want Strange even more for his next film. I could see it doing a billion as well.

I do see where the D+ stories are integral to the story telling which I appreciate because I'm a comic book nut and watch basically everything. I do see where the GA might get a little lost though, but I have faith they won't make it restrictive that it hurts in the process.

TheWalkingCuban - 12/22/2021, 12:00 PM
@batmbl - right because most of my MCU watching friends watched Wandavision but skipped What if, cuz animation ain’t their thing. Some friends are skipping Disney plus altogether. But some are even skipping the movies except Spidey. So, I’m guessing with that box office blowing the others out of the water, plus ratings or views or however streaming works, with those numbers they’ll make things connect but mostly stand alone.

batmbl - 12/22/2021, 12:16 PM
@TheWalkingCuban - Yeah I'm guessing especially with the D+ shows it'll be more referenced like the DS Teaser just did for WandaVision otherwise they'll alienate too many GA moviegoers.

@batmbl - well dude straight up waved Westview away, so folks can do their homework on it if they want to but they don’t have to. Probably something similar for dark Strange

Teaser looks awesome, I'm excited to see how this turns out. The first movie was good, wouldn't say great and I haven't felt the need to revisit it in a while. It would be dope if this one turned the franchise up a notch.

Sidenote, I wonder where the MCU is going with all of this multiversal madness? Will there be some end goal and big splash that will change the MCU, or will this just be this phase's theme so to speak?
