5 Reasons Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the best film in the series

The title says it all

Before I start, I'm going to say this once. Comicbookmovie.com covers more than just comicbook movies. So, I don't want to hear any complaints if that's what you were planning on doing. Anyways, I grew up with Harry Potter. In my opinion, it's the best film series. It has everything. Good, sometimes even amazing acting (no, amazing does not include Dan Radcliffe, he is just a good actor). It has humor, romace, edge of your seat action and a fantastic while terrifying villain. But, out of all 8 movies, I think Half-Blood Prince is the best. Here are five reasons why.

5: We get to know our villain

To me Voldemort is a better villain than Darth Vader. It's an opinion cause they're both different types of evil. Voldemort is born evil and Vader was corrupted. In, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, we get to know our villain. We get to see where he came from and many other things. His curiosity got the better of him and he split his soul into seven pieces. He is the most powerful dark wizard of all time and we get to learn about him other than that he killed Harry's parents and has returned to rule the wizard world and finish what he started. He's a fantastic villain (Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows part 2 really show it), he's terrifying and everything else you could want in a villain like that.

4: The Right Balance

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the film that got the right balance of everything. It's dark, funny, romantic, violent and heart warming. It's dark without getting too dark, funny without going over the top, romantic while not feeling like a Nicholas Sparks flick (I had to say it) and violent without feeling like a war movie or a superhero flick. It blends them all together very smoothly. Actually for as dark as it is, it's very funny.

3: Cinematography

This film is truly a beautiful one to watch. Yes, I think the cinematography for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is beautiful and the best of the series. For me personally, it helps getting me engrossed into the movie. If you don't watch it for anything else, this should be reason number one.

2: It's exciting

Don't get me wrong, all the Harry Potter films are incredibly exciting. But, I feel this one has the most excitement. While there are some things that were left out of the movie that were in the book (there was a battle at Hogwarts but left it out due to not wanting to feel that the battle in Deathly Hallows is repitition), and this film probably has the least ammount of action out of all the movies. It does somehow stay exciting. You have the scene at the burrow with the Death Eaters, you have the Cave, Katie Bell's curse. There are not many exciting moments in the sense of suspense and action but I think it's because of the whole less is more thing. I feel, that's why it's the most exciting.

1: It's Powerful

I actually came near to tears at the end of Deathly Hallows part 2 because it was something I grew up with (like so many others) and because even though it was a happy ending, it was still the end of what is arguably the greatest film series ever. That being said, I'm referring to one scene in particular. It's the scene of Dumbledore's Death. Not the death itself but the unity. The unity, putting the wands in the air and paying their tributes to Dumbledore. It's not a tear jerker by any means but, it's a very powerful scene because it shows that even in the darkest of times, there will always be unity and they will stand together in the dark until the end.

These are reasons why that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the best of the series in my opinion. Coincedentally it's also my favorite book. Do you have a favorite movie in the series? If you do comment below with it as well as your comments towards the article. Be respectful to the article and others please and thank you.

For me, Order Of The Phoenix is the best Harry Potter film, followed by Prisoner Of Azkaban, then Half Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows Pt1, Philosopher's Stone, Goblet of Fire, Chamber of Secrets and Deathly Hallows Pt 2.

In terms of film series' (and their best installments IMO):

1) Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back
2) Lord of the Rings - Two Towers
3) James Bond (although it could go up, as I haven't seen them all yet and am slowly working my way through the box set) - From Russia With Love/OHMSS/Living Daylights/Casino Royale/Skyfall
Tied 3) The Godfather - Part 1+2
4) Toy Story - All of them
5) Harry Potter - Order of the Phoenix
6) Back To The Future - Part I
7) Indiana Jones - Raiders Of The Lost Arc

I thought the Half-Blood Prince was the worst and a waste of a movie. Most of it was painfully-annoying teenage romance, and the main objective they had to do(destroy the horcrux) didn't even matter since it was a fake. And Dumbledore was a useless copy of Gandalf, so him being killed off wasn't such a big thing. My fav of the series(which overall is pretty good at best) would have to be Deathly Hallows:Pt 2.

I liked the first two the best. There was an innocence that the later once lacked. You have to have light in order for darkness to really work. The others were so grim it got kinda dull.

For me its
1. Deathly Hallows pt2
2. Goblet of Fire
3. Prisoner of Azkaban
4. Deathly Hallows pt.1
5. Sorcerer's Stone
6. Order of the Phoenix
7. Half-Blood Prince
8. Chamber of Secrets

I'm gonna have to disagree with your first point. They cut out sooooo much of Tom's backstory, that no we didn't get to know him at all.

We see him as a child, but it never gets really under his skin in terms of us getting to know him.

I'm not a big fan of HBP. I think Kalel219 makes a good point about Voldemort, but I had other issues.

For one thing I was really let down by Dumbledore's death scene. Yeah, they had the unity thing going on, but it doesn't really convey the pain of loss on the level it should have. I've seen Goblet several times, but it still gets to me a little when I see Cedric's father wailing as he clutches his son's dead body. These are characters that we had only known for one movie. Yet, Goblet made me feel more emotion at the loss of Cedric than HBP made me feel at the loss of Dumbledore who has been around since the beginning. If they had included the funeral scene, maybe they could have had that emotional power, but it seemed like their priorities were mixed up. They spent all this time showing Hermione's angst as Ron is dating Lavender, yet we can't see the funeral of one of the series most important characters?

I was loving Half-Blood Prince even more than Goblet of Fire for a bit, but that was before the ending. The ending's horrible. Seeing the last two really helped this one grow on me a bit, but, as I said, the ending's definitely the weakest of the franchise. The scene before his death and when he was with Harry in the caves getting the fake horcrux was more emotional than everyone's undecided attitude about seeing him actually dead. Malfoy and Snape needed more screentime too, but what they do get is great, especially with Snape, but besides that quibble the film was still great. Excellent performances from Jim Broadbent and Michael Gambon, great sense of doom and peril lurking throughout, lots of goodness.

1. Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1
2. Goblet of Fire
3. Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2
4. Half-Blood Prince
5. Prisoner of Azkaban
6. Chamber of Secrets
7. Sorcerer's Stone
8. Order of the Phoenix

first off, you must be 14 because that was the worst film in the whole series. the book is in my top 3 but that movie was butchered just like every movie since goblet of fire. with the exception of deathly hallows part 1 and certain aspects of order of the phoenix. but half blood is such a trash movie. they favored in producing a romantic comedy versus a thriller with romance involved. such a teenage waste of crap, reminded me of 10 things i hate about you or shes all that, thats how bad this film is. and no its not just my matter of opinion. its just a bad movie. its one of the best books and they ruined it because they wanted to make a different potter film. Azkaban is probably the best film, not based on the acting but the film as a whole, it was true to the book, it was the first of getting darker and the feel of the film was incredible. alfonso curaon is an incredible direcor and he keyed in on all the heart in that book. all the emotion except for that one scene where harry is crying, that was awful acting. and it was john williams last potter film so the music was actually brilliant.

@Wallymelon: Umm, dude. I am 16 and I've seen all the movies (clearly) as well as have read all the books. They made certain changes so it's a better movie. There are even people who even stated that making changes usually is a negative but, for Half-Blood Prince, it's a positive and I completely agree with it. Yes, I made a fault in the article when I titled my first "point". They did certain things to enhance the story and to help develop the characters and the romance in the movie. It's not like they left anything major out, if you don't count Dumbledore's funeral which I'll side with the director and say it didn't fit with the rest of the film. I feel it had the best blend of darkness and light without favoring one of them. Also, funny story. I think Prisoner of Azkaban is the worst of the movies and it's my least favorite book. I don't remember much from the book which doesn't help me cause then it doesn't make sense on how he saw himself come to the patronus. Not to say it's a bad movie, cause none of the Harry Potter movies are bad. Not even remotely close but, Year 3 is definitely the worst movie. It is also the only Alfonso Curaon movie I like. I don't like most of his work. David Slade deserves more recognition than him.

Also, how does my age even determine whether it's a good movie or not? That's a ridiculous statement. My 5 all time favorite movies are (in no order): Jurassic Park, Lincoln, Warrior, Gladiator and Zodiac. I have never read Jurassic Park and have no plans to. All of them are great movies, well I think Lincoln is phenomenal but that's besides the point. You suggested that age has something to do with taste. It's stupid and makes no sense. In your opinion, Half-Blood Prince was a bad movie. When (in mine as well as many others opinions), it was a very good movie. It's my opinion it's the best and that Alfonso Curaon is a bad director. Don't like it? Not my problem.
