A Letter to the Readers: Fanfics

A Letter to the Readers: Fanfics

Just something that was on my mind...

Editorial Opinion

At first, I wasn't sure if I should call this an editorial.

Then, I thought, well it is because i'm typing it up as sort of a 'letter'. Most of the things that we post as articles wind up being letters to whoever chooses to read them. To begin with, I want to make the disclaimer that I do not have:

"Whiney-[femaledoggy]-complainy-uninformed" syndrome." :)

I needed to say that because I do not want to be burned by Galactus (all due respect), and I am not necessarily posting this to complain.

NOW, to the topic at hand. Nobody is reading my fanfics! Yeah, i've gotten a few comments on my stuff before, but not the reception I hoped for. Most of the fanfics that everybody posts are overlooked by the majority of the CBM population. Why do so many fanfics go unread? There is no right or wrong answer. Truthfully, some of the fanfics really suck and some are poorly edited. To my defense, i'm not saying that mine are always awesome, but I am severely disappointed that my fanfics have largely gone unread. I've read stories here on this website about how people get noticed by bigwigs at comic-book companies and get hired. I really wanna get that.

The sad part of all this is...I quit. I stopped finishing my stories. I would start something, nobody would read it, and then I quit. Later, I would get excited over again and start another series. The same thing happened later.
I take great pride in my work, especially because I have aspirations of being a published novelist one day. Hell, I have so many ideas for books I want to write, I'm willing to bet my left testicle that at least one of them will be a hit. In fact, I want to be the next Stephen King. To be more specific, I want his crown. I'm not going to write all horror stories per se, but I am a fiction writer.

So, to promote myself, i've compiled all the links to my work that i've posted on CBM. Some of them aren't finished, but if I get some positive reception...well, I will finish them.
Just to add suspense, I'm planning a HUGE project to show off my writing chops. The only catch is that I will need an artist. *wink wink* (hint hint) I'm not advertising yet though! I'm planning on sending out a separate article to ask for applications. It's a secret for now though. Who knows, maybe we will do something really awesome.

Friday the 13th: The Darkest Knight
If you thought that The Dark Knight had faced his greatest threat yet...you might be wrong. An old terror has been brought into Gotham, and you won't find his name on Wikipedia's list of Batman villains! This Friday the 13th, Batman will face Jason Voorhees, a type of evil he has never encountered before.

A Nightmare in Gotham: Emissary of Darkness
Freddy may have bested Jason Voorhees before, but can the fedora-donning master of dreams conquer the Caped Crusader? Batman is unwilling to let Gotham fall into darkness and he will fight tooth and nail to prevail, even if it means prevailing over his own fears.

Part 2: A Nightmare in Gotham: Fear of Darkness

Marvel Parallels: Fantastic Four
In the world of Marvel Parallels, nothing is the same. Many changes have been made, and some of them may have you shuddering with curiosity. The world is twisted, perverted, and made better. Find out how the Fantastic Four has been effected in this radical vision.

Watchmen vs. EA
Inspired by Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Read all about this uncanny competition in my exclusive outline. I have a vision for what this game would be like, and it's here! This crossover is the first of many that I have planned to post on CBM. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Rorschach fought Dante from "Dante's Inferno", or if Issac Clarke would win against James Bond? You might encounter a few surprises on the way.
Watchmen vs. EA

As a sidenote, I would like to say that I would love to post some of my personal work. The reason that i'm not going to is because it's not CBM related. You're gonna have to wait until it's published :)

And I wouldn't mind promoting some other things I want to bring attention to.

^CBM related^

^Not CBM related, but interesting nonetheless.

Well, I know what alot of people do, is make pictures that link to their articles, to advertise in the comments.. Which I do want to know how to do, but other than that. Nobody knows how many people are looking at their articles. I remember one time, where I made a poll, and because of the low number of comments, I thought hardly anyone had read it. But then when I looked at the votes, I was just so suprised at how many voted. Usually I try to pop into the fan-fiction, to give positive feedback, even if it isn't really good. :D

I've never really been a fan of fanfic, so take my opinion for what it's worth. I guess the main reason I'm not a fan is because most of the time the stories are unoriginal and uninteresting. Just by reading the the synopsis, nothing caught my fancy enough to read further. They may be brilliant stories, but Freddie and Jason meet Batman...meh, sounds like a bad idea to begin with. The Marvel parallels sounds promising but it's the Fantastic Four :( The author of His Dark Materials said it best, "forget about pleasing other people, and aim to please yourself alone. That way, you'll have a chance of writing something that other people WILL want to read, because it'll take them by surprise. It's also much more fun writing to please yourself."

i look at it this way: It's called ComicBookMOVIE.com
not ComicBook...Book.com

I don't want to read because I'm lazy :D
But I'm sure if I took the time to write something, I'd want people to at least read a little.

I only check out FanFix for the fan art, I thin fan casts are a waste of time to make and read, and the stories like most said are usually half assed grammatical nightmares, or just not interesting enough to read.

I barley go to that section, but when I do I skip over all the fancasts (which are what most of those articles are), I skip over all the Batman fan-fics (he is my favorite superhero, but most of the stories are about him. It gets tiresome to read fan made batman stories over and over again. There are other good superheroes.), I do read the other fan-fics (again, I seldomly visit that area), and I look at the fan-art.
