I have been a casual fan of Doctor Strange for years. I was never completely obsessed by him and his world as I was with Spider-Man, Black Panther, Superman, Batman, or any of those more popular characters. However, I was extremely aware of him and have always had a slight interest in him.
The other night I got to thinking who would make a good Doctor Strange, since there is a movie in the works. This was the result.
Joseph Fiennes is a phenomenal actor. His acting catalog consists of "Shakespeare in Love", "Enemy at the Gates", "Running with Scissors", as well as the television show "Flashforward". Fiennes would make a terrific Doctor Strange, both as the arrogant surgeon and then as the humbled Sorcerer Supreme.
Alice Eve as Clea just makes sense to me. She has an extraordinary range as an actress, from films such as "She's Out Of My League" to "The Raven". She is also set to appear in "Men In Black III".
Wong was a difficult character to cast. I wanted somebody who would add more depth than just a man-servant to Doctor Strange. Gordon Liu's acting credits include the two "Kill Bill" films, "Dragon Squad", and "Mr. 3 Minutes". I want Wong to be more than a servant, someone who is Strange's friend.
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is a great actor, who has been in the films "Pearl Harbor", "Planet of the Apes" (2001), and "Tekken". He would be superb as the Ancient One, the guider of Doctor Strange.
Mordo was another difficult character to cast. My first thought was Rufus Sewell, however I noticed that quite a few people had already cast him. Joaquin Phoenix is one of the best actors I have ever seen. Just watch his performances in "Ladder 49", "Walk The Line", and "We Own The Night" for proof. Phoenix would be excellent as Baron Mordo.
I would want Dormammu to be nearly-completely CGI. However, for his voice I would want Christopher Lee, better known as Saruman in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and as Count Dooku in the newer "Star Wars" films. He has a commanding voice that always rattles my bones, something I want Dormammu to do.
Nightmare was another hard character to cast. Finally I settled on MacKenzie Crook, who is mostly known as a comedian, working on the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, and as Garth on the British television show "The Office". I think, however, Crook will pull of Nightmare nicely.
*CAMEOS*
I don't want everyone in the first film, I imagine Doctor Strange as a two part saga, with a third film being a Midnight Son sort of film.
I could see either Nick Fury or Tony Stark offering a position on the Avengers and having Doctor Strange refuse, but saying he is there to always help. I would like Tony Stark better than Nick Fury offering the job, mostly because I think it would be a spectacular scene.
Like I said, I would love to see a Midnight Son film of sorts, and Blade fits right in there. Michael Jai White is known for the films "Spawn" and his role in "The Dark Knight". I really like White as an actor and think he would relish in the role of Blade.
This may seem like an odd choice, but I have faith in Daniel Radcliffe. I think he would be an excellent Danny Ketch, not only based on his role in the "Harry Potter" series, but also from his new film "The Woman in Black". I like the idea of Ketch more than Blaze just because I prefer one to the other.
Well, that's my fan cast! I hope you enjoyed it and as always, comments (good, bad, or just plain ugly) are always welcome!
