Well, here I am again. Making another fancast. This time we're going over to the Marvel side of things. I was sitting around earlier, all bored-like and started thinking about how the Fantastic Four would be cast if it was being handled by Marvel Studios and was part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So come along as I throw out some choices for who I think could play various roles in 'The Fantastic Four'.
Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic – Justin Bartha (National Treasure, The Hangover)
Reed and Doom were the characters I had the hardest time casting. My original first choice for Reed was an actor named Matthew Lewis who was in the 'Harry Potter' films. But the I saw a photo of Justin Bartha and something just clicked. He has the right look and has shown a bit of solid acting ability in the various films he's done. He's not a huge name, but with Marvel films, I don't feel like BIG names are needed.
Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman – Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies, Sorcerer's Apprentice)
Teresa Palmer was my first choice for Sue. She has a really great look to her and I think she could play the character really well. She hasn't done a lot of big films, but I liked her in 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' and I know I'd like to see more from her.
Johnny Storm/The Human Torch – Chord Overstreet (Glee)
I know, I know...He was in 'Glee'. But so was Grant Gustin and a lot of people really liked his portrayal of Barry Allen. Honestly, Chord Overstreet is one of the better cast members in the Glee roster. With his character he has shown a wide variety of acting ability, from dramatic to comedic. He has a solid delivery of comedic lines and I think he could really bring that to a character like Johnny.
Ben Grimm/The Thing – Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Warrior)
I was concerned with casting Hardy since he was already Bane and I'm not a fan of actors doing more than one comic character. However, I wasn't fond of his Bane, so I'm cool with him doing another comic character. I think he has the right build to play a character like Ben, both before and after his transformation. I've liked some of his other work and I think he could handle this character pretty well.
Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom – Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A-Team, Oldboy)
I really liked Sharlto Copley in 'District 9' and I thought he did a pretty good job of being a villain in 'Oldboy' and 'Elysium'. I think he could portray Doom as a very cold, calculating and charming man. Very evil, but also very formal about his evil-ness. I think he'd be great as Doom.
H.E.R.B.I.E. - Michael Cera (voice) (Superbad, Crystal Fairy, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World)
I'm not sure why, but I really want HERBIE in a movie. I figure his voice would probably be somewhat innocent sounding, maybe a bit clumsy. This choice is a bit more subjective since everyone probably has a different idea of how he should sound. But I think Michael Cera has the type of voice that I imagine HERBIE would have.
Mole Man – Rainn Wilson (The Office, Super)
I didn't want to go short with Mole Man. That seemed to obvious. Sure, I could have gone with someone like Danny Devito or Peter Dinklage, but something about Rainn Wilson seemed cool to me. I loved him in 'Super' and I think he'd kill it as Mole Man. He's normally a comedic actor, but I tend to notice that comedic actors give the best dramatic performances. I like to think Wilson would bring something really creepy to a character like Mole Man.
Annihilus – John Malkovich (voice) (RED, Being John Malkovich)
Again, kinda subjective. I don't really have a set idea of how Annihilus should sound. I happen to like John Malkovich's voice though and I thought he could probably handle the role.
Silver Surfer - Matthew McConaughey (Voice/Mo-cap) (Dallas Buyer's Club, True Detective)
Well alright, alright, alright. McConaughey is awesome. I honestly wish he could play everyone ever, but that isn't possible. But he could play someone like Silver Surfer. He has a nice calmness to his voice which I think is need and his face is very thin and doesn't have a ton of major features which is another thing I think is needed for Silver Surfer.
Galactus – Jude Law (voice) (Contagion, Sherlock Holmes)
Jude Law has a great voice. I think he has the right tone to play a character like Galactus. He's also a fairly big draw since a lot of people really like him. He has been doing some really great stuff lately and I think he'd be great in a role like this.
There you have it. My choices for a Fantastic Four cast if it was being done by Marvel Studios as part of the Cinematic Universe. Hopefully you like what is above, but if not, let me know in the comments. I'd be glad to hear what you would do differently or who you would cast in each role. Also, be sure to thumb the article so others can see it. Thanks!
