Recently Harold Ramis passed away. Around the same time, talks of a third Ghostbusters films began (again) with some wondering if it would even be possible with Egon. I know a lot of people are hoping the third film still happens but I am not one of those people. I'd honestly prefer they remake the film (Well, I would prefer they leave it alone entirely, but if it must be continued...) So below I've gone ahead and cast the remake with the actors I'd like to see in the roles. Let's get started.
Director – David Gordon Green
David Gordon Green is a fantastic director. He's done some really great comedy work with films like 'Pineapple Express' and he's shown his ability to do more serious work with films like 'Joe'. He's also shown an ability to merge the two mediums pretty well with the film 'Prince Avalanche'. He also has working relationships with various members of this fancast, so it made sense.
Writer(s) – Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen
For whatever reason, a lot of people dislike Seth Rogen. I mean sure, he does give off a douche-vibe, but he's pretty funny. I loved 'Superbad' and 'This Is The End' and the various other films these two have written and I think they'd knock a film like Ghostbusters out of the park.
Egon Spengler – Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd is a pretty great actor. He's done some stuff I've really enjoyed and I feel like I could buy him as a brainy character like Egon. He's also really funny which helps...since this is a comedy and all.
Peter Venkman – Seth Rogen
Yeah, I figure if Seth Rogen is gonna be a writer, he'll also wanna be in the film. He has the right attitude to play Venkman. He doesn't look much like Bill Murray, but whatever.
Ray Stantz – Jonah Hill
This one was obvious. If Rogen is Venkman, Hill has got to be Stantz. Hill's also really funny and, with his 2 academy award nominations, I hear he's a pretty good actor too. I think he'd kill it as Ray.
Winston Zeddemore – Kevin Hart
I don't find Kevin Hart's movies very funny. However, I do find Kevin Hart himself funny. I like his stand up and I think, if given a good cast and a proper script, he could actually be really great in a film like this..
Dana Barret – Mary Elizabeth Winstead
I like MEW. She's been pretty good in the stuff I've seen her do. However she tends to pick some crappy films to work on, so a film like this could do wonders for her career. Also, others might not see it, but she has a very similar look as Sigourney Weaver.
Louis Tully – Jay Baruchel
Me and Jay Baruchel don't get along. I once told him, through twitter, that he sounded like Christian Slater...then he blocked me. But I'm willing to put that behind us. I'm willing to squash the entire thing, if he would just play Louis, because he's so perfect for this role. This was the choice I was most behind while casting this thing.
Janine Melnitz – Aubrey Plaza
Aubrey Plaza has a good deadpan humor thing going that I think would really come in handy for a role like this. Also, ever since seeing Safety Not Guaranteed, I have a mild Aubrey Plaza obsession. Not sure what that's about.
Walter Peck – James Franco
I'm not putting Seth Rogen in a movie without putting James Franco in the same movie. I figure Peck is a good choice for Franco because it would allow him and Rogen to butt heads which is always a fun thing to watch.
Gozer – Tilda Swinton
Not a huge role, but I thought she had the right look. Also, she's a pretty big name and I think it'd be kinda cool if they had her pop up at the end without telling the public she was in it. Ya know, like a big cameo. Comedies love cameos, it's the new thing.
Anyway, there you have it. These are my choices for who should be cast if they ever decide to do a remake of the original Ghostbusters film. Let me know what you think in the comments below. Also, don't forget to hit that little thumb button so others can see the article. Thanks.
