We all know this reboot is taking Peter back to school, hopefully in a bid to create a new Spiderman movie universe true to the comic. I’ve cast people here who could actually pass for being in high school. There isn’t much more irritating to me than people clearly too old being cast for high school roles. “No! Not a weak Twilight rip off or tweeny bopper movie!” I hear you cry. No, if this is done right then it will be far from that. Peter, Harry, MJ and Gwen should all be young but the villains Spiderman faces are far from it. That’s what Spidey is all about, he’s a kid coming of age taking on an adult world. So, with that in mind….
Aunt May - Maggie Smith
Old? Check! Woman? Check! Talented actress? Check! I think that covered the bases.
Uncle Ben - Jon Voight He has the on screen presence Uncle Ben needs and apparently makes a good chilli con carnie!
Jonah Jameson - Hugh Laurie JK Simmons did a quite simply perfect job in the last three movies and it seems a shame to say goodbye to him. Hugh Laurie could be a great replacement.
Green Goblin (Norman Osborn) - Gary Sinise This guy can play “calmly powerful” and “complete nut job” at the same time and that’s what is needed for this character.
Lizard (Dr Conners) - Sam Neil Sam has always played intelligent characters and “Event Horizon” showed his ability to be creepy. Role these together and you have the makings of an excellent Lizard/Conners.
Kingpin (Wilson Fisk) - Pruitt Taylor Vince Not a very well known actor but he has cropped up in “Constantine” and the brilliant “Identity” with good performances. He doesn’t have the height but that’s easily solved these days (Hobbits and Hagrid have shown that). The important thing is his face and build, both of these are perfect.
Silvermane (Silvio Manfredi) - Ray Liotta The
other crime lord of the city. A Sicilian mob boss? Ray Liotta? It’s almost type casting isn’t it? A little Hollywood aging magic and we have our man!
Kraven (Sergei Kravinoff) - Gerard Butler Do you need an explanation? Then just look at the picture again you muppet!
Hobgoblin (Roderick Kingsley) - Kevin Bacon Bacon is a great actor and despite his many strong performances he hasn’t really become the household name he should have been. He easily has what it takes to play a rich arrogant fashion designer and murdering psycho.
Vulture (Adrian Toomes) - Pete Postlethwaite No, not Ben Kingsly. Kingsly would be great but I see Peter fitting into his surroundings much more convincingly.
The High School Foursome Harry Osborn - Anton Yelchin He has been cast over and over again in this role and it’s easy to see why. Explanation over.
Gwen Stacy - Emily Osment Possibly my most controversial casting here and I don’t expect it to go down well. Yes, I have a daughter which means sitting through Hannah bloody Montana from time to time. The thing is, once you get past the cringe factor you can see she is a good actress and has grown into a very attractive young woman (yes she’s legal!). I can see her playing the part of Peters’ first love convincingly.
Mary Jane Watson - Emma Stone To be honest, I don’t know that much about her. I do know she’s a pretty solid actress and pleasing to the eye. I think she definitely has what it takes to pull off this role.
Peter Parker - David Henrie Last time I checked this guy was listed for the lead in this reboot on imdb.com. We all know that means nothing but I honestly think he is a great choice. It’s easy to write him off as “talent less” just because he appears on the Disney channel but that’s a little narrow minded don’t you think? No big screen actor of any level of success was ripped from their mothers womb and thrown directly into an award winning role. Even the best started somewhere. Don’t be blinded by who he plays or the show he’s on, look at how he plays his part. He is a good actor who can play smartass bookworm easily! He looks the perfect age and he’s ripped! Most of us suggested Jake Gyllenhaal for this role before the reboot was announced, David looks like a young Jake to me so what‘s not to like?
Hope you like it. I know there are a few characters missing but I hope you can see through the controversy of some of my choices.
