Greek mythology has always been a big part of Hollywood movies, and back then these myths were like the comic books of today, Larger then life characters, epic stories and a big pantheon of God-like heroes.
I think Hollywood never did use the great potential of the Greek mythology. The only movie that really showed us how powerful the Gods of Olympus was "Immortals" from 2011, that was worth watching only for that amazing fight scene with the Gods.

Now there are two different Heracles movies in work, one with The Rock. However I would like to see a movie about the Olympians. I mean every one of theme is like the biggest Superheroes there are. If toy take the great fight scene from Immortals and add the great action from Man of Steel, you can have one hell of a movie with Gods kicking a lot of butt.
But you have to do it right, have a compelling, make people care about the story and the characters. Obviously make it epic and a great spectacle, but you have to make the Gods to be relatable and interesting to watch.
And have some liberties with the story, it's not like the story of the Olympians is carved in stone.
I want this to be the origin story of the Gods of Olympus, before Heracles and Perseus and all the others. Show us how the Gods became the Olympians, make it about young Zeus, show us how the Gods defeated the Titans, show us how it all began.

The biggest obstacle is the incest thing. I mean, Zeus and Hera are siblings, and I don't want them to do it Lannister style. The best way is to explain is that Zeus and Hera are not really siblings. Make Zeus, Poseidon and Hades brothers, and the sons of Cronus. But make Here the daughter of some other Titan. So that Titan got killed somehow, maybe killed by Cronus, and then Cronus took Here and she became his adopted daughter. I know it's not the best explanation, but I'm pretty sure no studio wants to advertise Incest.

So this is my idea for the origin story of the Gods of Olympus.
Long time ago, the Earth was very different. The Titans ruled the world, Cronus was the King of the Titans. But there were other beings out there that try to destroy the titans. The titans themselves were at war, and every Titan wanted to be King. Cronus was the must powerful titan there was, and he used his offspring to win wars.
But Cronus had a very dark secret, he learned about a prophecy that foretold that he was destined to be overcome by his strongest son. As a result, every time one of his sons became too strong, Cronus would imprison that son in Tartarus, there the son will have to fight evil monsters every moment in order to survive. Will the son is doing this, his life and powers is slowly transferred to Cronus, making him stronger and stronger every day, until the son just dies.
The other sons don't know about this, and the only other person that knows about what Cronus is doing is his own wife, Rhea. But she can't do anything to stop this from happening.

In the beginning of the movie, Cronus's children are: Zeus, Poseidon and Hestia. Hera and Demeter are the adopted sisters of them all.
There was another one in the mix, and that was Hades, but Cronus sent him to Tartarus, and his brothers think he died.
All of them have superpowers like: superhuman strength, Vulnerability, healing factor, teleportation and more
Zeus is basically a mix between Superman and Thor. He can fly and shoot lightning from his hands, among other things.
Poseidon is more like Aquaman, he can control the oceans and can use sea creature in any way he wants, so he can summon the Kraken to help him if the wants.
Hestia is not really a warrior, she is the smart one, but she can also control fire.
Hera is more like Wonder Woman, she is a bad-ass, and a very good warrior, and she and Zeus have a little thing to each other.
Demeter, like Hestia, she isn't really a warrior, but she can hold her own, and she is more like Poison Ivy. she has the ability to control plant life and the earth.
Hades is dark as Batman, he used to have some other powers, but in Tartarus he was changed and because he was there for so long, he started to be able to use the underworld for his own benefit and control the dead, and this is way he was able to trick Cronus to think he died, but the truth is Hades is still in Tartarus.
Zeus and Hades are more like Thor and Loki.

These five are the wonder kids of Cronus, and they fight his enemies.
Zeus and Here fell in love, but they are kipping it a secret.
Cronus believes that the prophecy talked about Zeus, but this time Rhea decides to intervene, and she goes to Gaia (mother of Cronus, who was betrayed by her own son), and asks for her help.
With Gaia's help, Zeus and his the others are learn about the truth and rebel against Cronus, in the process they meet Hades, and the six fight against Cronus and his titan army.

In the end, the six win and become the Gods of Olympus. But because Zeus doesn't trust Hades and fears his powers, Zeus banishes him to the underworld, there Hades creates his home (and he will come back with
vengeance In the sequel).

The movie could have great action scenes, of Gods fighting monsters and titans, but also a good and dark story.

Hope you guys liked this fan story.

@beto You have a lot of good ideas there. Although I have some differing opinions.

As great an actor as Brolin is, I feel he's just too American for a role like that. I'd go with someone else. Preferable a Brit.

Switch Hestia and Aphrodite. Both of them are hot, but Aphrodite is a younger Olympian. So, you should make the age dynamic realistic.

Nice idea though. I did a fan cast to the video game "God of War." You should check it out.

I, too would like to see a movie about the Olympians and Olympians only. Immortals is the best movie about Greek mythology (yet) because this movie portrayed the Greek gods accurately and they actually had something to do instead of just watching from mount Olympus a demigod to save the day. Despite the changes (Zeus and Hera not being siblings and Hera a warrior), I like your story and I think it would make a very good movie!

See? There we go again.

"I'm pretty sure no studio wants to advertise Incest."

So you don't want a movie about Greek mythology, you want the Hollywood version of it.

What no one understands is that the Greek mythology was nothing but the people's (poets' mostly) attempt to explain the world around them, nature, the weather, the laws of physics, human instincts and the fundamentals of human behavior.

The Gods didn;t follow the laws of human nature or society, because they weren't human! You don't have to explain why Zeus and Hera were siblings as well as mates, you just need to take it for granted, or explain to the audience the symbolism behind it.

[How they are two sides of the same coin, with one representing the unity of people (Zeus = Ζεύξη = Union) while the other, the things that divide us) etc]

Lord of the Rings made good movies, and it was based on pretty weird mythology (if you take time to study it).

It's all about how you present it to the audience. If you take for granted that your audience is stupid, then just give the project to Michael Bay, he'll handle it well ;)

Wow, sorry for the wall of text, turned out bigger than I thought!

Btw, by the way you write "Heracles", I suspect there's some Greek ancestry in you? Thanks, anyway, I hate the word "Hercules"!

I'm taking a course on Greek mythology right now. You could keep the incest. Just downplay it. Like in the myths, the incest played a very miniscule part in the tales. They were married and they just happened to be related. It wasn't, "you're my sister, let's get married!"
