Let's just jump right into it;
I was born 16 years ago. 1997. A year which also gave way to a videogame which has since spawned dozens of sequels, TV shows, movies, books, etc.
So I guess, in a way, I grew up alongside Pokemon. And hell yes, I loved it. It was my life up until about 5 or 6 years ago. That was when I decided that it was maybe a little too childish for me.
Just a couple weeks ago I stumbled upon an article regarding the release of a brand new Pokemon game. I looked into it, nostalgia goggles on, and I don't think it looks too bad. Still a tad childish, but not bad.
And of course, my director's mind started going off. The ideas started pouring out of my head. How come no one has ever attempted a live action Pokemon movie before? Do the big film studios not understand how many 10 year olds they could drag into a movie theater with that? Hell, I'd even go see it.
So, while the idea was fresh in my head, I wrote out a 15 page (give or take) screenplay, based on the story from the original video games, the ones that I loved.
Subsequently, I filmed a proof-of-concept trailer! And with no further ado, here it is! (Please keep in mind that the CGI is in it's very early stages)
So there you have it. Now, I want you guys to let me know what you think, and don't be afraid to be harsh (Are you ever?), I'm really curious to know your opinions. Even if you don't like Pokemon, or never have, let me know how I did from a technical point of view. Effects, direction, cinematography, music, anything. I really want to know. Do you guys think it's possible to pull off a live action Pokemon film? Do you think I should move forward with my 15 page screenplay? Comments! Please!
Til Next Time!
