The Best Possible Actress For the Scarlet Witch... Needs Talent!

The Best Possible Actress For the Scarlet Witch... Needs Talent!

With so many (frankly) bad choices being thrown around as to who could play Wanda "Scarlet Witch" Maximoff, it's time we ought to take a look at her character and what makes her tick. And moreover, who could best bring her to life on the big screen.

Now, no offense to some of the people here, but I have seen some downright bogus, if not horrible, suggestions for Wanda "Scarlet Witch" Maximoff. From talentless flavor of the month "actresses," to models who've never even been in a single movie, I'm just plain bamboozled by some of the choices I've seen for Wanda. Come on people, don't you at least want the best possible actress to bring Wanda to life on the silver screen?

First off, Wanda is not a generic comic book chick. She's suffered a life full of hardships (orphaned twice, was a victim of prejudice, emotionally screwed around with, found out her real dad is a genocidal maniac, lost her first and second families, and finally was driven insane), and it shows in her character. Nevertheless, she's also warm, intelligent and caring. She's also a very important character in the Marvel Universe as a whole - the daughter of Magneto, twin sister of Quicksilver, a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the X-Men and the Avengers, the one who brought about the Avengers: Disassembled, House of M and Decimation events, and so many other things. It is admittedly frustrating to see the studios continuing to neglect including her and Pietro in the films.

But for crying out loud people, Megan Fox as Wanda? She's yet to really impress moviegoers as a serious actress; another odd choice includes Olivia Munn, who isn't even an actress. Not to mention Wanda's ethnicity - she's European (raised in Romania and Magneto lived in Nazi-occupied Europe), so we should at least get an actress with European-looking features, or better yet, an actual European actress!

When I looked at Wanda, I knew who I wanted to play her.

Eva Green, a French actress best known for her roles as Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale and Serafina Pekkala in The Golden Compass. In fact, her performance in the latter really reminded me of Wanda.

What's not to like? She's beautiful (although it does take some getting used to her features), a great actress, and looks like Wanda on top of that. And the fact that she has an impressive set of assets befitting of a comic book chick.

Another choice I've seen is Anne Hathaway, and she would not be so bad. Unfortunately, her features don't remind me of Wanda - to me, they come across as too innocent, naïve and princess-like. As mentioned before, Wanda has endured a troubled life, and yet she continued to soldier on. Anne looks far too much like a happy, well-adjusted all-American girl to look like she could pull off a tortured yet strong soul like Scarlet Witch.

Don't take offense to my views here, I'm simply my personal opinion on the matter. Let's make love, not war, okay? ;)

i actually am surprised about this choice.
pleasantly surprised mark you.
i loved her in casino royale and if any have seen Kingdom of Heaven, they should know that greene has the chops to pull of scarlet witch.

only issue is, where would she play the character?

in x-men? it sounds logical being that she is definitively connected to magneto and the fact that she is a mutant adds leverage to an x-film.

in avengers? she has over the years been far more prominently exploited in the avengers than in x-men.
she has had a relationship with the vision who i hope will make to the silver screen.

i dont know where she'll show up, but maybe now that disney owns EVERYTHING marvel, her character will be done right.

.....hopefully.

Interesting choice.....

I first saw her in the Dreamers, and was really surprised when I first heard she was going to be in Casino Royale.

Eva Green is definately the best pick, but Emily Blunt would be great too.

Eva would be fantastic dude. Though I still have a soft spot for Anne Hathaway as the Witch :)

Yeah, Eva Green might work as the SW, she is both beautiful and talented. Problem is, just like Wadey said, where could we get to see her in this role?

Any suggestions for Pietro, btw?

Well we would see Wanda and Pietro in an X-Men movie, because that is where they debuted first and they are technically associated with the X-men. And FOX has talked about including Pietro in a future movie, he has even been rumored to be in First Class, if it ever gets made.

Disney buying Marvel will have no effect on the fact that FOX holds the rights to X-Men and Fantastic 4.

@kyos
dude i have been racking my brain for ten minutes trying to find a good suitor for the role of quicksilver.
since pietro is european, it would probably be best to find an unknown actor to play him.
but i also looked through my dvd collection and cam upe with three finalists. one of them i can already say is a downright NO. you'll know which one.
i wnated the actor to be around eva's age because wanda and pietro are twins. i also wanted an actor who could be angry because pietro is one angry fella when he gets mad.
My first choice: Ben Barnes. Barnes was a knockout role as Caspian in Narnia 2 and he is European. he is also 28, one year younger than eva.
My second choice: Emile Hirsch. Yes, he is a little young. He's five years younger than eva. But he has performed phenomenally is several films such as The Emperor's Club, Lords of Dogtown, and I dont care what people think but I liked Speed Racer.
My least favorite choice: Hayden Christensen. He is known across the globe as the man who would be Vader. To some, he gave a crappy performance but everyone has to agree that even though the prequel trilogy wasn't his finest moment, he has performed much better in films such as Jumper. He is also the sam age as Ben Barnes. We all know that Hayden can do angry, but I am worried about whether he can translate the rest of Pietro's conflicted psyche to the screen.

what do you think?

I don't think Hayden Christensen has the acting chops to pull of a complex character like Pietro. He can do angry, but I haven't really seen him do anything else.
Ben Barnes I just don't know. Maybe he's a bit too pretty for me, and I can't say anything about his acting talent.
Hirsch has the talent, not sure about the looks, though. But I guess he would be my favourite out of your finalists.

Somebody I would love to see in this role is out of the race from the start, since they wasted him as Angel in X-Men3: Ben Foster. He is a great actor. He can do angry, troubled and slightly mad like few other actors of his age I know. Plus I think he could look right. I think it's a shame he was Angel, since he couldn't show about any talent in this role, which was completly useless anyway. They should have cast anyobody else who looks good with wings, and save the actors for roles that require acting.

Well MistressKizuna, maybe you missed it but there is actually a european actress who's been dreaming all her life to portray Wanda. Here she is, just click the pic:

In terms of Pietro, I'm still on the fence about him. For one thing, he has to be about the same age as the actress playing Wanda and also has to look like he is related to her in some way. Ben Barnes sounds alright. I would like Jamie Bamber in the role, but he's about seven years older than Eva; still, he's also a great actor, and is European. Ben Foster as Pietro doesn't sound so good to me - he's a fine actor, but looks nothing like him, and I can't see him being able to get the mutiple facets of Pietro's personality (the arrogancee, family dedication, etc) right.

Shaman: I did hear about that Helena Mattson interview, and she might be okay, but I haven't seen a thing she's been in, so can't judge her acting, and moreover, her resume is almost non-existent in comparison to Eva's.

how about that frech chic from TME MATRIX movies....Belluci or something.

Monica Belluci is fine as all get out, but she's getting up there in age. I don't think Scarlet Witch would be a good fit for her. I do know something that would be a good fit for her, but I haven't talked to my wife about a threesome yet.
