Not your typical
comic book movie but if a good number of action scenes with a generous dose of humor is what you like, then there is a good chance that you will enjoy
The Green Hornet. Yes, your read right this film is a cross between comedy and superhero film. Seth Rogen brings his unique brand of comedy and Jay Chou, a newcomer to comedy, provides some good comedic timing as well.
Britt Reid (Rogen) is the son of L.A.'s prominent media tycoon and a party boy with little ambition. However, after his father (Tom Wilkinson) mysteriously dies, Reid must take over the empire he knows little to nothing about. He makes some changes in his personnel and ends up with two key advisors, Kato (Chou) and Lenore Case (Cameron Diaz).
Feeling life his life is meaningless (as a rich trust-fund kid), Britt and Kato get a chance to change that during a chance encounter with crime. As a result of Kato's fighting abilities, they are able to escape and stop the bad guys. This encounter combined with their mutual love of cars, leads them down the road of fighting crime in a bad-ass car. And for the first time in either of their lives they can make a difference.
The film is a loose adaptation of the successful comic book hero and a 1960s TV series that featured the venerable Bruce Lee. I have to commend Rogen and the crew for taking the risk of changing up the characters and infusing humor. While not received well by many critics, I felt this film was better than expectations.
Yes, the film is predictable at times, but there are some witty twists and turns including the ending. In the end I was entertained and give
The Green Hornet 3 stars.
