Trigun Fan Cast

An MCott fan cast of the popular anime/manga: Trigun.

While being on this site, I've seen a lot of anime fan casts. Most of them, however, have been casts of the Dragonball series. I thought I would do Trigun for a few reasons. 1. It's one of my favorites. 2. I like to be different. And 3. I think that it would work out really well as a live-action movie.

Story: So what's what's the story for those of you who have never seen Trigun? Set on a distant planet Gunsmoke, the story revolves around a man called Vash the Stampede, who has a bounty of 60 billion double dollars on his head due to "the July Incident," and event which absolutely destroyed the town of July. He is tracked down and then followed by two employees from the Bernardelli Insurance Society named Meryl and Milly, who wish to minimize the damage he causes (although it's actually caused by the bounty hunters looking for him ironically).

Another of Vash's allies (albeit occasionally) is the priest Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who has a mysterious past like Vash. Eventually, Vash is able to regain his memory and recall his past, leading him to seek out and kill his twin brother, Knives.

Cast

Also considered: Chris Hemswoth, Travis Fimmel

I will admit that Hartley isn't the best actor. But, out of all the choices I've considered for Vash, he was definitely my favorite. I wasn't a big fan of him in Smallville (hell, I was barely a fan of Smallville)-- he was "eh" at best. However, it's much the same case as Sam Witwer; he was sub-par in Smallville,, but everything he did after it, he was significantly better in. You could see the improvement in his acting.

So, why did I like Hartley more than my other choices? I think it's because he looks the most like Vash. Also, to my knowledge, Hartley can pull off all aspects of Vash's character-- the dedicated pacifist, the serious fighter, and the carefree goofball.

I will admit, I never thought much of Anne Hathaway in terms of action. But then I saw The Dark Knight Rises I have mixed feelings about the film, but Anne showed us she has potential in the action genre. And on top of that, she is just a great actress.

I do have to admit, I'm kind of nervous about this choice. Mostly because we haven't seen Akerman do an action movie since Watchmen. After that, she switched over to comedies-- where, let's admit it, she's doing great (Trophy Wife is one of my favorite new sitcoms). But, she is a good action actress, and she can pull off the sweet naivete needed for Milly.

Okay, this one was hell for me to cast because I had so many great ideas and there was so many good actors to choose from. So why did I choose Gyllenhaal? I guess it was because I thought he could do the most with the role. I don't know. But, there's definitely no doubting Gyllenhaal as an actor.

This choice may take a lot of convincing. Legato was a really challenging character to cast. He's so dark. I ultimately choose Quinto because of my favorite show (many of you know what it is), American Horror Story. Really watch him in season 2 (called "Asylum"), he's freaking brilliant! Quinto would be a great villain.

There's a reason I have two choices here; it's because I didn't know what to do really. I could have gone Harltey, because Vash and Knives are twins (and it would just make sense to have the same person play both twins). But, in the anime and manga, Vash and Knives look so distinctly different-- you can see the similarities, but the differences outnumber them. Also, the anime and manga just says they're twins, it never says whether they're supposed to be identical or fraternal. Ackles, in my opinion, looks enough like Hartley to pull off being his brother. Also, he has potential to be a great villain (watch My Bloody Valentine or Batman: Under the Red Hood)

You got my thumbs up. It's funny, just the other day, I was thinking that Hartley would make a great Vash, and now you've made this.

Awesome cast! I love all of your picks! I think that Chris Evans would make a Good Vash.

BTW, are you planning on doing any other anime fan casts?

I like Quinto and Hathaway. The rest are a little too "TV" for my tastes. I know that doesn't really matter in a fancast, but it just doesn't seem believable to me that Hartley would be the lead in a film and Hathaway would be supporting. I tend to prefer when fancasts keep everyone in a similar caliber of acting.

More of a personal issue than anything else on my part...

@McCott Cool! Have you ever thought of doing one for "Attack on Titan"?

I plan on doing an editorial for a few animes that I think could be easily adapted into live action (Trigun's among them).
