Welcome back to What Happens Next. When we last left off we discussed the ending of The Dark Knight Rises. Before we begin I must remind you that this article contains heavy SPOILERS so if you haven't seen The Amazing Spider-man, please stop reading now.
So let's talk about the scenario. After the climactic battle with the Lizard, Peter stands over the body of the soon to be dead George Stacy. In his dying breath he tells Peter to promise him that if he continues to be Spider-man that he should stay away from his daughter Gwen, who up to this point has been the love interest. Naturally this is extremely difficult considering that she's crazy hot and actually a character (as opposed to his future girlfriend Mary Jane) he makes a comment before his big swing through the city implying that he's going to break the promise and stay with Gwen.
So what happens next? Well simply put...Spider-man goes to Hell.
Now before you say anything I am in fact a Christian but that has nothing to do with my opinion on this and I hope no one goes into a religious debate below because of my guess here. In fact I relayed this scenario to one of my friends who happens to be athiest and the first thing he said was "this kid's going to Hell".
I mean, it's just a terrible thing to do. It wasn't like this was just the dad being a complete jerk. He was trying to protect his daughter from the super powered villains that would definitally try to attack her to get to him (this is Spider-man after all). And to make matters worse this was a promise Peter made to someone when he's dying. Even Hitler would take into account that he made a promise to someone on his death bed.
Now, I know what you were thinking, well as long as Gwen's safe it's possible George wouldn't even care about the promise. Well, let's talk about a little scene from the original Spider-Man. In the movie Green Goblin tosses Mary Jane off of a bridge and Peter is forced to go after her. This is taken directly from the comics only with two notable differences. First, it was Gwen here and not Mary Jane and second, it didn't have the same heroic and happy ending. That's right, Gwen died in the comic books and this storyline was a bit of inspiration when making this very movie. Heck, they even established Norman Osborn, who would later become Green Goblin, in this universe (as well as that evil bridge).
So later on they stay together, Gwen dies, and Peter is haunted by the ghost of Dennis Leary until his eventual death where he spends all eternity in Hell. While this would be an interesting and unexpected fate for our favorite web-head it also doesn't help matters knowing that in the comics he makes a deal with the devil.
