Why Don't Villains get the Spotlight?

Villains. They are the thing that makes a comic book, a superhero, and a CBM. But why don't villains get the spotlight every once and awhile? That's the question I am trying to answer.

What makes us love a villain? Is it his costume, his attitude, his weapons, or his plans? Or, could it be something else? Is it his quest for power? Well, yes and no. We don't LIKE what he's doing, but deep down, you can relate to what he's doing. We always wanted to have a life of luxury, or wanted to be rich. Maybe you just wanted to do something wild and crazy! Lets face it, we all want these things at one point in are lives, and sometimes, we want to be the villain! So, if we love the villains so much, why don't we get a movie, or a TV show, or even a video game focused on the villain. I keep seeing Batman posters everywhere, but there aren't any Joker, or Penguin posters. Why can't we have one? Is it because we don't want to part with the hero. It wouldn't deal with Good vs Evil? No moral or lesson? That's what I'm trying to say: the Good vs Evil is getting old! I would rather see Evil vs a bunch of SWAT officers trying to keep them from breaking into the Treasury!

Villans in Video Games: Villains are the best part of any video game. You always want to play as them. Well it's been what, 16 years since Playstation1 and NO CBM video games that have villains as the main character. No, Marvel Villains: Ultimate Evil? *sigh* Is it because there are too many famous villains? *cough* DLC *cough* No sequel to Justice League Heroes called, Injustice League Villains? Again Villains are shoved out of the spotlight.

Villains in Movies: Joker, Doc Ock, and Kroenen. What do these three villains have in common? They all steal the show. They make us look away from the hero, and face the villain. Why can't these guys get a movie, and SWAMP THING AND HOWARD THE DUCK CAN! I just don't get it. At least one Joker movie. Please. No villain movies means that yet again they are unloved.

So. Villains. Should they get the spotlight or not? Should the hero take a break? Why can't he? But I want an opinion. Tell me yours in the comments!

Question of the Article: What villain (besides the ones in the article) should get a movie?

The formula is as ancient as storytelling. The protagonist must face the antagonist. The antagonist defines how good/super the protagonist is.
A spotlighted villain is a nice idea. The issue is the audience (especially the general audience)must relate and have a vested interest in the main character succeeding. By spotlighting the villain, there is no protagonist.

The best example is "Silence of the Lambs." At the end of the day, we wanted to see what Hannibal could and would do, and then how Clarice would eventually stop him (after Buffalo Bill).

How about a Suicide Squad or Secret Six movie? I'm not sure I would want to watch a movie following a single villain.

Simply put... there villans, they will always be second to the heroes. A supervillan movie will not work.
