EXCLUSIVE: Stephen Moyer Being Pursued to Portray Fantastic Four's Doctor Doom

According to a studio source, Fox is attempting to sign the True Blood actor for their reboot of Fantastic Four; PLUS other story and casting updates.

The two previous Fantastic Four films, released in 2005 and 2007 respectively, turned a decent profit for 20th Century Fox but received poor reception from both critics and fans. The studio has now decided to take the franchise in a new direction by way of a reboot. The new Fantastic Four franchise will supposedly have a very different tone than the Tim Story directed films; and will feature a completely CGI rendered version of the character The Thing (previously portrayed by a rubber-suit clad Micheal Chiklis).

Last week, ScreenRant reported that Fox is currently negotiating with actors Adrian Brody and Johnathan Rhys Meyers for the role of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. Today I've learned that the studio is very strongly leaning towards Brody; whose A-list status will help draw greater general audience interest in the project. Another name has now been added to the list, this time it's True Blood star Stephen Moyer. An offer is currently out for the actor to portray the villainous Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom. Though it is still unclear exactly how central the character will be in the film, Doom will be showcased as the ruler of Latveria and a master of the mystic arts.

More information has also surfaced by way of my inside source at Fox, who tells me that, if all goes as planned, the studio is planning on releasing Fantastic Four in the summer of 2012; which is the same timeframe as Marvel Studios' The Avengers. Though actress Amber Heard was in the early stages of negotiations for the role of Susan Storm/Invisible Woman, former X-Men: First Class actress Alice Eve is now the front runner for the part; as is Kevin Pennington for Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

The current screenplay for Fantastic Four has the team's origin taking place during the opening credits; ala The Incredible Hulk. The film has yet to sign a director, though meetings have already taken place between the studio and three contenders.

I have no problem with this film for now. It is going better thean the firsts ones. Doom will be actually bad-ass! And if we think about we´ll see the cast for now. Doom, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic. And will be as The Incredible Hulk, better than the first ones.

He seems to have the creds but heres a question...why have what some consider a "good" looking guy casted in yoru film if hes gonna be behind a metal mask...I agree with Dynamo...get Mikklesen, hes a great baddie and is a real threat as Doom.

AWESOME!!!
He would be perfect, but I think they should do someone else since they already did Doom. I think they should do the Super Skrulls or the Overmind, and then later play it into a second Avengers movie.

Awesome scoop PF,

Wow, I hope this won't be better than The Avengers, because Doom may finally be going in the right direction for this flick :) And having a CGI Hulk & Thing in the same year: Awesome. I still hope The Avengers is better, storyline & visually effects wise.

I've only seen one episode of True Blood and said never again. So I don't know about this guy's acting, but he does have "the look" I guess.

I've never been huge a FF4 fan, but the first two movies killed any chance of liking them for me. Fox sucks so unbelievably much... Boycotting and bashing it every chance I get! I've got Houston covered for the boycott movement haha

Great Doom pics, Pietro! And what an exciting article! Kudos sir!

I think Brody would make a fine Reed Richards. Never heard of Moyer.

Pennington looks so young, but of course that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I think everything will be fine this time around as long as they don't screw up DOOOOM! What a horrendous blunder that was last time.

Doom is like Marvel's Lex Luthor! As villains go there are none that are more prominent or important. Hopefully Fux has learned their lesson about that!

The guys expression and body language just screams sex appeal+intimidation factor. I don't watch True Blood, so I've never seen this guy before, but he could work as long as he can act the part. Now, if Marvel actually supports this choice and can get FOX the hell out of the way, I'll be more convinced. Between Rhys-Meyers and Brody I'm leaning toward the latter. This movie needs more geek-nerd factor with Reed Richards. C'mon, that would make him and Sue the perfect 'nerd who gets the girl' scenario.

But it's not nerd who gets the girl. That's what the original movies did. It's supposed to be girl becomes infatuated with much older guy, who doesn't look twice at her. She's the one who pursued him.If you portray Reed as a stereotypical nerd, then you're just screwing over that character. He's the exact opposite.

He is a good looking guy, who is also very wealthy. He is also extremely confident, sometimes to the point of arrogance due to his superior intelligence.

He should be like RDJ Tony Stark, minus the jokes. He should be cocky as well, but not deliberately.Nor should he be womanizing.

YES!!! He is great in True Blood. He is Dr. Doom! I hope that this will be the film that redeems the Fox team.

And I assumed they would use Doom again.I mean, you have to, as he's a big part of their story.Even if he isn't the main antagonist, he usually has a hand in things.

Besides Doom and Galactus, they don't have that many really good enemies to choose from, as Marvel has recently stated Fox doesn't own the production rights to the Skrulls, Namor or the Inhumans.

I can actually see this working - now if only Marvel can wrestle the property away from Fox before they totally screw it up AGAIN!

Depends on what you mean by great. Most people find Moyer/Bill boring and unintimidating. Not really good qualities for Doom.

Err... Idk, I agree with @Ryden
Marvel should do the movie not [frick]ing FOX!
They will screw up it again. F4 has potential to be an epic and important movie, if done by Marvel
And why Dr. Doom on the first movie? Use Mole Man.
And bring Doom in a epic way in the sequel, like did with the Joker. But again by Marvel not [frick]ing FOX! :P

Acerimmer1, well, I'm sure this is an origin story, and while those guys are good actors, they're both 30.Johnny should be in high school, not as old as he was in the first two.Hell, these guys are older than Chris Evans. That Pennington guy they're looking at is the right age for the role.

He'd be a good Doctor Doom. I would rather James Frain be Doom, but Moyer is also a great choice, bringing the menaching presence Doom will need and being a very good actor. Plus it would be nice to see him make it into the movies.

I like the idea of Brody playing Mr. Fantastic and both Brody and Moyer together would make for an interesting dynamic and two great actors playing off each other. I'm getting more and more excittd.

Moyer would not make a very good Doom. all he can say on True Blood is Skooie...and he won't sign on he's on is honeymoon. And if he where .. Anna Pacquin qould be the invisible woman...so he can say SUE... not a good choice. You need someone evil.

I my self liked the first two FF films, could they have been better oh hell ya, but i liked em for what they were. I liked Julian M as Doom, i feel the problem with the way Doom was protrayed in those was more in script problems then in the actor. But about the new films i would rather see MoleMan as the first villan as it was in the comics.

I know I'm aiming WAAAY to high, but I would like Daniel Day-Lewis as Doom. I hope they get a good director for this and give him/her alot of creative freedom (although it ALREADY doesn't seem like it if they're trying to cast already)
