We have a late-night Marvel Studios update for you here, as Deadline ace Justin Kroll has shared a small nugget regarding the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and it sounds like it may be a little further out than many have anticipated.
According to his sources, Kevin Feige is taking his time finding a director for the project, and an announcement is not expected until much later in the year, possibly after Labor Day in September,. This means it's seeming increasingly unlikely that a new director will be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con next month.
Following Jon Watts' departure, there are reportedly several A-list candidates in the running, as Feige is keen on hiring a bigger name for the project after his recent experience working with Spider-Man director Sam Raimi again on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - a production where he didn't have to worry about being on set every day to oversee the entire shoot.
It seems as though Feige would prefer Fantastic Four and future MCU film projects to run just as smoothly, with a veteran director at the helm.
While everything is subject-to-change between now and SDCC, there's still a strong possibility Feige and company announce the film's core cast during the annual convention in July. Whether a certain Multiverse of Madness cast member is a part of the official ensemble, however, remains to be seen.
