Here's a wild rumor to get you over the end of the hump day! It's being claimed that none other than the legendary Steven Spielberg is being courted to helm Marvel Studios' upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

Yes, this does seem like a pretty far-fetched one, but bear with us!

There's a rumor doing the rounds online that none other than Steven Spielberg is being courted by Marvel Studios to helm the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, which recently lost original director Jon Watts. There are even whispers that the legendary filmmaker may have already agreed to board the project.

Now, before you dismiss this as just another bit of fabricated internet bull*shit, it's worth noting that several reliable (or semi-reliable, anyway) scoopers have alluded to the story (nobody seems ready to report on it outright just yet), and we have heard that Kevin Feige has been speaking to Spielberg about the possibility of directing a future MCU project for a some time.

Of course, none of this means he has actually agreed to helm Fantastic Four or even that this report holds any water, but it is certainly worth keeping an eye on. After all, Marvel Studios managed to secure Sam Raimi on fairly short notice after Scott Derrickson parted ways with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

We still know very little about Feige's plans for Marvel's First Family, but John Krasinski did appear as Reed Richards in the Doctor Strange sequel. The character met his end at the hands of the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), but the A Quiet Place star/director could well reprise the role for the upcoming reboot.

We recently learned that Moon Knight producers Grant Curtis and Nick Pepin are also working on the reboot.

@AmazingFILMporg - Same apparently Feige wants to ditch amateur directors and hire auteurs or pros like Sam Raimi because it makes managing and finishing projects on time easier. Feige also wants to stop supervising everything, that's probably why everything lately has been really mediocre.

Problem with this is, you need Spielberg to come Back for thr inevitable sequels. And he's not that kind of director right?

@Vigor - My thoughts exactly, I think Spielberg could Kickstart the franchise but someone else would have to take over after he's done.

@Vigor - Not necessarily. I think if Spielberg lays the groundwork the next director or directors can build of it. Look at what the Russo Brothers did with both Infinity War and Endgame. They took what came before and made it a spectacular event. As long as the right folks come after him it will be great. John Favreau comes to mind. That man respects and admires the source material of franchises and builds off of them.

Hmmmm!

As someone that wanted JJ Abrams, Spielberg could bring something classic to this franchise. I'm wondering though, will this film be set in the 1960's? It would be pretty cool to have this as a period piece and somehow they get warped back into the present day. However, I'm not too sure how they could explain the same things happening to Doom. Just fan-fictioning, but we SHOULD have them be the new owners of Avenger's old tower.

@TheRationalNerd - I've been saying for a while now (at least in the forum in my head anyway) that they should have this show start of in 1963 with Reed as the (at that time) as the smartest guy on the planet, predating Pan or Stark. The F4 could end up stuck in the "Negative Zone" (which is really the Quantum Realm) for 60 years battling Annihilus and whomever and exit in current times due to Scott and Hank's work with the Quantum Realm. Hank could have even been a student of Reed's back then, and they could have some fun banter with the terms "Quantum Realm" vs. "Negative Zone" (i.e. "The Negative Zone is SO 60's"). They could even throw in a pass-by reference to the F4 literally passing by Janet at some point. They can end with doing the fish out of water thing with Johnny (and the rest) returning to the present time but I think that it would be a lot of fun watching Johnny learning and taking advantage of modern culture in a way that Cap never did because, well, he's Cap. Anyhow, I think that this could be a fun intro to the characters without having to shoehorn in Doom for the first movie. Especially if he is introduced in BP2 or somewhere else first.

Then they end with the proper introduction of Doom. e

@StSteven - I think you are pretty much bang on with this. They will use the Quantum Realm to bring them from the sixties to the present time for the sequel, I would guess we will get some form of easter egg(even if it's not obvious) in the next Ant-Man movie.

Steven Spielberg doing a Fantastic Four movie would be incredibly cool. But I somehow doubt he will step on a franchise like MCU. I could see him doing a superhero-family movie like Fantastic Four or Shazam family on his own terms, maybe back in a time era when superhero movies weren't such a oversaturated as a genre. But an MCU movie with so many strings attached, we'll see I guess.

I think he would love to do an MCU film. Of all people he knows how to direct a tentpole movie and they have an incredible creative and production team at Marvel so he won't have to mess with that, just direct it. Best technology as well. That's why Raimi could step in at the last minute and succeed.
