Julian McMahon Would Like To Play Doctor Doom Again If Marvel Studios Get The Rights Back

In an interview with ComicBook.com, the former Doctor Doom-actor revealed that he would like to get another shot at playing the Latverian emperor. He implies that the biggest chance of him playing the character the way he wants is if Marvel Studios get the rights back.

Julian McMahon, who previously starred as Fantastic Four arch-nemesis Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, was recently interviewed by ComicBook.com at a Syfy holiday party. His turn as Doctor Doom was heavily criticised by fans and critics alike, but that has not put McMahon off from the role. In fact, he seems to really genuinely love the character. When the Childhood's End actor was asked if there is a comic book character he would like to play, his answer was still Doctor Doom.

”It's interesting, I was thinking the other day, and I looked online and looked at the new Fantastic Four movie, and I saw it, saw the trailer and I just thought, okay, that's interesting. But I never got to express Doctor Doom the way that I saw Doctor Doom. If Marvel Studios got Doctor Doom back, and I could play him the way I always wanted to, as a sniveling, conniving, freaky guy, I would do that for sure. The character I most want to play is the character I've already played! There's so much there!"

It seems like McMahon did not get to play the character the way he wanted. That certainly seems plausible if you consider the way Fox has been treating the Fantastic Four, for example, making sure the 2015 reboot strayed as far from the source material as possible.

Would you be willing to give Julian McMahon a second chance at playing Doctor Doom? Sound off below.

Did he just describe this guy?

"sniveling, conniving, freaky guy"

I reminisce him as Dr. Doom like I do this neat little gadget back in the day.

Doom back at Marvel Studios would be amazing. He could essentially be a big bad for a whole Phase.

I liked him in Charmed, I think he could do a decent job given the right script.

I don't blame him for the first movie but he just isn't the best choice.

Absolutely not. If the rights ever go back to Marvel (which won't be anytime soon), it needs to be a new actor.

Marvel has a bad track record with villains. Their Doctor Doom would probably be an under-developed cardboard character who dies at the end of the first film he's in. Despite that, at least they would make him the ruler of Latveria.

@marvelstudios

No, I highly doubt Marvel would handle Doom well at all, given their poor track record with villains. I also doubt he'd have as big a role in the MCU as you're suggesting.

Yes, he'd be more comic accurate but he'd probably be under developed and would die at the end of the first film he's in, like Red Skull (yeah, he MIGHT have survived but we were led to believe that he died in the film and, two phases later, is nowhere to be seen). In the comics, Red Skull is a major villain who plays just as big a role as Doom does.

That also goes for the majority of the MCU villains.
