THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS BTS Photos Reveal Another Amazing Practical Galactus Scene

Marvel Studios utilised amazing practical effects to bring Ralph Ineson's Galactus to life in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and new behind-the-scenes photos reveal another scene shot for real.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps finally did right by Marvel's First Family, and more importantly for many fans, delivered a comic-accurate take on Galactus.

The Devourer of Worlds previously appeared in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but was depicted as a cloud. The creative decision haunted fans and left them waiting the better part of two decades to see a proper portrayal of the iconic villain.

Last year's reboot delivered that, thanks to a mix of practical and CG visual effects. Now, a new behind-the-scenes photo from The Fantastic Four: First Steps - Family Portraits: Photos From The Set, shows us how a particularly memorable Galactus moment was shot for real with actor Ralph Ineson.

In the movie, when Galactus first arrives on Earth, he pauses a moment, pulls up a tree, and smells the dirt below. It's a scene that's generated a lot of discussion, though the implication seems to be that the towering baddie was getting a "taste" of his eventual meal.

Seeing how this was accomplished is undeniably impressive, and most walked away from The Fantastic Four: First Steps wanting more Galactus.

The movie ended with both him and the Silver Surfer being left stranded on the other side of the universe. The comic book Galactus has come back from much worse, but with the Fantastic Four likely to make a permanent home on Earth-616 after Avengers: Secret Wars, it remains to be seen how he would potentially be reinvented for the main MCU.

Galactus plays a pretty unique role in the Secret Wars comic, so we also wouldn't discount the possibility of Ineson reprising the role before the Multiverse Saga ends.

Check out this new behind-the-scenes photo from The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the X post below.

In our review of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, we concluded, "The Fantastic Four is an exceptional introduction to the MCU’s First Family, and thanks to a Jack Kirby-infused feel that’s unlike anything we’ve seen before, it proves to be a quintessential superhero movie with Marvel Studios at its brilliant best.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet.

Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

The movie is now available on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Disney+.

@IAmAHoot - And yet, he demonstrated next-to-nothing of his cosmic-power offensive capabilities. 🫤

This movie was so underwhelming, really it was. Galactus visually they got right but pretty much everything else was very poorly delivered. The family bits almost felt like a sitcom, I was looking for the walls to wobble when someone entered the room each time. And the terrible giving birth in the middle of a race through space was pure Disney teen adventure and nothing more. Imagine if Jon Favreau had directed it in the style of Ironman…

@dragon316 - totally agree. I’d have been happy with the Rise of the Silver Surfer but this version of Galactus. I can’t understand why it is so difficult to make these movies to the same quality as the early MCU offerings like Ironman.

@Spike101 - FF: First Steps goes right alongside CA:The First Avenger in my book. It was safe, took very few chances and was competent. But, it had all the aftertaste of a lettuce salad. 🫤

@SuperiorHeckler - yes exactly. I watched it again the other night on a long haul flight back from Japan and for the most part it was either cringy or boring. The Surfer and Galactus were the only incentive to continue watching.

Those pictures look great as does Ineson in the practical Galactus suit imo…

While I wish he had atleast a bit more screentime in the film , I still felt he did well in the role within the limited material & screen presence he had with that booming voice of his so I do hope we see him again in the future at some point.

Anyway , I still feel FF:First Steps was a solid film so I can’t wait to see the family in Doomsday & beyond!!.

Not sure what some others were watching but I found this movie to be amazing. Perhaps the final battle could have been longer IMO but I really liked the movie. They got the Thing right in his appearance. Still not convinced on Reeds mustache but he played the role okay

I thought the movie was really damn good honestly. The bar was pretty low for me already before I watched it but didn't disappoint IMO.

Remember, this movie made less than the 2005 film when adjusted for inflation...

I gave this movie a 3.5 in my review, similar to Superman, I lowered it to a 3. They turned half the team into sidekicks and Galactus into a Kaiju.

I think I've been so used to movies and shows being poorly produced (which this wasn't), I graded up when I watched them.

First steps was good. The best F4 film to date. Really liked Galactus & Silver Surfer. The production design, set design, art design is Jack Kirby inspired, him & Stan would be proud. It’s not perfect or great, there are flaws, the pacing is a little off and the second act needed more filler. Ben Grimm’s subtle romance with the teacher was undeveloped as a subplot. Galactus also took forever to reach Earth, literally moving at a snail’s pace lol. I’m satisfied with this iteration looking forward to the next instalment and their return in Doomsday/Secret Wars.
