When Marvel Studios put up four mystery statues at D23 this week, many fans wondered if they were about to unveil the costumes that would be worn by an all-new Fantastic Four. After all, the 2015 reboot starring the iconic heroes was a complete and utter flop, so Twentieth Century Fox giving up on the property would make sense. Well, guess again because they're holding on to them for dear life!
"I’ve been at Marvel for 17 years," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said, pausing for a moment before confirming that the foursome definitely won't be joining the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at any time in the near future. "There are certainly no plans whatsoever for that. But too many amazing things have happened over the past 17 years for me ever say never. But for now, nothing." That's about as definitive as you can get but don't fret too much as there may be hope yet.
"There’s a chance that aliens could come down from the sky right now," Feige countered. "And we’ll use them in the movie in to save money on visual effects." Er, perhaps it is time to give up hope!
Rumour has it that Fox is working on a family orientated Fantastic Four movie which will take place from the perspective of Franklin and Valeria Richards so a Marvel Studios reboot is probably out of the question. Stranger things have definitely happened, though, so perhaps we'd best just wait and see.
