Brandon Routh Up For Sam Raimi's World Of Warcraft?

Brandon Routh Up For Sam Raimi's World Of Warcraft?

While chatting with Empire, Routh mentioned that he has been talking to Raimi about a possible role, he also reiterates his desire to once again don the cape as Superman for the Nolan's new movie.

Routh says that he has talked to Raimi at a party about "Their addictions to WoW" and that they would see what happens when they get the film up and running. And also, as he has said many times before now, he would love to be Superman again. I seriously think this dude deserves another shot, but its very unlikely.

Last we heard on Sam Raimi's adaptation of the immensely popular video game, teh director said it was definitely happening, but he wasn't sure when production would begin. If Routh is looking for a role, who could he play? I think he has a slightly elfin look about him, stick some pointy ears on him and Bobs your Uncle!

Great find Ror!

Back on August 3, 2009, Routh expressed interest in the GameToFilm as well.

"I'm kind of a gamer," Routh said and then hinted that he's not only excited about the announcement that Spider-Man director Sam Raimi will helm a big-screen adaptation of the game, but he's hoping to get a role in it.

"They just announced that Sam Raimi is directing, so that's very cool. My friends over at Legendary [Pictures, of Superman Returns] are working on that. So I'm looking forward to what's going to happen with that."

When MTV asked him whether he's hoping to get a call for that project, Routh couldn't help but smile. "You might get a little action - a little sword fighting - that would be a lot of fun."

Routh is really campaigning for Superman :D

Warcraft has a great story and style. I'm way more excited about a Warcraft movie than The Hobbit... nasty hobbitses

How about a Starcraft movie too!

Routh will never don the cape again. There is no way they could follow up SR with Routh, as they wouldn't be able to keep the continuity going. Does anyone think they would use the same cast, have him with a young super-powered son, etc.? Ain't gonna happen. To reboot with Routh, it would be too confusing for those who saw SR and don't understand all complexities of what is going on with the Superman franchise.

Routh doesn't look like a WOW kind of character to me. I don't care for his acting, so him being cast in anything I am remotely interested in seeing doesn't appeal to me. I would be interested in WOW, if they don't pull off another Dungeon Siege and casting Routh would set that on the wrong path for me.

Anyway all this is all good news.
There is TONS of story telling potential in that game.

However I think we all know how game based movies usually turn out. Megacrap!

To tell you the truth I would rather see Warcraft on HBO, SHowtime, (for the budget) or even Starz. I think it would fair better in syndication than a movie.

Video game movies don't usually pan out well. But hey, Raimi's a creative guy, so the translation from game to film will be very interesting to watch.

Is it me or does BR look latino, or italian? Well I will put it like this. If he said he was I would be like, "yeah ok, makes since" but if say Chris Hemsworth said he was Latino or Italian I would be like, No f*%#ing way!

He could be Prince Arthas. I can see that.

The more important thing is getting Bruce Campbell in this. One character per race, I say!

In regards to the ROTHBOOT, it could still be done and could actually play off very well. So please indulge me for a moment.

The movie opens with flash back to SR, followed by Supes (Roth) floating in space. We see him battered and bruised, floating towards the moon. He craters on the moon and we see more flashbacks. Then the sun begins to shine on the moon healing him and he wakes up from the dream that was SR. We realize all the images from SR returns that we just saw were only a dream. As the sun heals and restores him, we hear (through is super hearing), radio transmissions from earth of how Doomsday has killed Superman, knocked up out into space and is now running rampant on earth wrecking everything in his path. Supes heals, flys back to earth and the battle continues.

As for WoW not having a story line worth a movie. You evidently have never read the lore in WoW. Read up on a story first before you cut it down. do you think 12 million subscribers are really playing a game that has no storyline? highly doubtful.

I'd love to see Routh return. The script he was given and the story was utter bs in Returns, his acting was not. He deserves another chance. I really think he can nail it reaaaally good!

Wow will fail along the videogame trail of shame...
If I were Routh I would be smart and return as Superman because there is a 90 to 80% chance of it being successful compared to Wow's 90 to 80% chance of falling off it's heavy ass.
Sigmax
Sigmax - 8/3/2010, 10:20 AM
@MatchesMalone - Thanks mate. I have always thought, even when watching SR that it was something akin to a dream state. The villan that put him in that dream state could be Doomsday, Brainiac...anyone really, but they would have to have something strong enough to do it. We could see Supes coming back to earth to save Lois and realizing he doesn't really have a son, that Luthor has been in maximum security for years and that he and Lois are married.

I don't know. I thought Routh was an EXCELLENT Superman. The problem wasn't him or his acting, it was the story. With that being said, it was a good story, just not enough action. I've watched Superman Returns several times now and for the most part, I really like it.

I just don't see how they can make a World of Warcraft movie.

It doesn't make sense! Who's to say Routh should play an elf?! What if he was an Undead Priest?! It's an open story, how do they even formulate a beginning or an end to the plot?

@Fartman - They'll use some of the story line set up in the RTS games. You know, 1-3? 3 was pretty plot heavy.

"To reboot with Routh, it would be too confusing for those who saw SR and don't understand all complexities of what is going on with the Superman franchise."

Not buying it. I've never bought into that "people are too stupid to get it" mantra and I never will. You make it clear that it's a reboot and people are smart enought to "get it". It doesn't take a PHD.

Seriously, everyone here ask yourself if it would be too confusing for you to understand. Of course not. The same goes for the general non-comic book reading public. It's a pretty basic concept to explain to folks, and you don't need to have an ongoing subscription to the Superman titles to figure out such basic issues.

And if you truly actually believe the moviegoing public are a bunch of ignorant lemmings, then you take the time to make the point of the reboot with the trailers, tv spots, and the cast press junkets, where it is clearly spelled out that this is a reboot. Hell you could even title it Superman: A New Beginning" if you are that paranoid.

But seriously. No way am I buying into the "It's too confusing" arguement. Come on man, you have to do better than that to try to explain why Routh shouldn't be Superman again.

Just bring Routh back with the same cast with the exception of Lois (need a recast here) and someone other than Luthor as the villain (Doomsday/Darksied), and ignore the events of "Returns" Just like they did with the last Hulk film. The film would stand on it's own and could fit in anywhere with the Reeve's films cannon that you imagine it.

Found this on Wikipedia

In May 2006, production company Legendary Pictures acquired film rights to adapt Warcraft for the big screen with the game's publisher, Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard had originally considered hiring a scribe for the film adaptation before teaming up with Legendary Pictures.[8] The companies plan to create a film that will not follow one specific Warcraft game's storyline, but will still take place in the fantasy universe.[14] According to Blizzard's Chief Operating Officer Paul Sams, the film's budget would be over $100 million.[15]

In June 2007, Legendary Pictures chairman Thomas Tull said that the studio was working closely with Blizzard's designers and writers to adapt World of Warcraft. Tull explained the desire to have a good story for the film adaptation, "I think some of the stuff that makes a game translate well... if there's a lore, if there's a road and story and a world that's been created, and characters that are interesting in a way that's more than just point and shoot."[16] World of Warcraft's lead designer Rob Pardo expressed interest in being able to adapt the intellectual property of World of Warcraft to the appropriate medium of the film. He also added that the designers were collaborating with Legendary Pictures on story and script development.[17]

Don't scoop me on that paragraph lol, its WAAAAY old

Ah, so its theoretically going to be a whole new story line that takes place at the same time that WoW does. So, after the first 3 games. Interesting.

niknik@ for the CBM fans that would be the case. For mainstream public I will respectfully disagree with you. You don't think mainstream America won't be curious as to what happened to Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor or super son? All of a sudden it is a whole different story and cast and no one will care? It has nothing to do with stupidity. I think the mainstream viewer is smarter than that and would care. Just because they don't follow the CBM world and all that went down with SR doesn't make them stupid and you are twisting around what I said to imply that is what I meant. Given how many people here hate reboots, I doubt mainstream Joe is any different.

Add in the fact I think Routh is a crappy actor. I blamed his poor performance in SR on the director like many did, but after watching him in Chuck, he pretty much sealed his fate as far as how I view his blah acting skills.

He should play a warrior or elf, I don't know. I honestly don't think he is going to play Superman again because for one it will confuse to many people and Chris won't do that. He was great in Superman Returns but that will be the only time he plays him.
