Chris Lee keen on reprising LOTR role!!! If asked that is...

In a recent interview with Empireonline.com Christopher Lee, the man behind Saruman in the Lord of the Rings trilogy admitted that no new negotiations have been made as of yet for his reprisal as Saruman in the two upcoming Hobbit movies to be helmed by Guillermo del Toro but that if asked he would be more than happy to come back!

"No, I haven’t heard anything (On the question of del Toro asking you to come back to the role of Saruman). Only on the fan forums and websites, but I’d be happy to. I could be the voice of Smaug."

Even though the role would be a rather small one if to take on Saruman again, I believe it would put us all at ease if we saw another familiar face from the trilogy coming back to these movies!

Of course he will, he'll do anything! Bit like SLJ lol, Though its really cool news their keeping original actors in this (the HObbit) instead of recasting! ; )

Sauruman wasn't in the Hobbit, but i guess he could be! Lee is THE lord of everything.

No he wasn't but Gandalf talked of him, and i'm sure they could include him in somehow...see Anil Rickly's comment above!

but i thought we on this site always got mad when they deviated from the source material. now there gonna add in a character that wasnt in the book cause people remember him from the other set of movies? that seems like a bullshit reason to deviate to me. didnt they do that in wolverine

There were many scenes in LOTR that were not directly in the book but were alluded to or talked about. It is not a bad thing to turn "off-camera" scenes from the book into "on-camera" scenes in the movie version and for storytelling purposes can be very beneficial, such as the showing of Gandalf's imprisonment by Saruman in LOTR. I do believe Saruman was mentioned in The Hobbit even if it was only in a "the head of my order" manner and as such a short scene between G and S would not be amiss and could definitely enhance the end product.

Yeah they have already said that they are going to show some scenes of the White Council, which would include Saruman.

I'm not sure if he was in The Hobbit or not... but Lee is an amazing actor and would impact on the success of the movie... It will already be successful... but with him attached it will do better.

Well aren't they doing 2 movies? If so he would most likely be in the second showing more about white council and his corruption. Plus, while he was not directly there, wasn't he in charge of the attack on the shire at the end of The Hobbit?

For recast wise I think they only person that could be recast is Bilbo, Ian Holm is getting pretty old esp when he is supposed to be playing a younger version of himself.

It's been a few years since the last time I read Hobbit, but I'm pretty sure Saruman isn't in it. Though, I have heard many rumors that the reason they are making it in 2 films is that they want to also include a fair amount of Middle-Earth lore, including parts from The Silmaril, which was a great read! Have you all thought how great Guillermo is going to make this? The Spiders of Mirkwood... the animatronics for the spiders is going to looks so creepy, I'm sure it will be one of the most genuinely frightening moments I will ever see in a movie.

SlaughterHouse the scouring of the Shire was the end of LOTR, it just wasn't in the movie. In the books, that's when he is killed by Wormtongue. Those movies has MAJOR deviations and cuts from the books but because they were so damn good the fan boys gave em a pass...i guess you can stop a fanboy bitching!

teabag i remember watching that as a kid and having the shit scared outta me! Never read the book either but my Dad says its creepy as [frick] too.

Lee will definitely be cast as Saruman since Del Toro is making a double feature,(second one being a crossover to LOTR) and he might want to establish Gandalf's relationship with Saruman.
I think Smaug will be voiced by Ian Mckellen, as he did the Tree in LOTR

Sugakane: Ian Mckellen didn't voice treebeard that was john rhys davies.

Anil: cate blanchett won't be in it as she is only a major char in Lotr not hobbit.

From what i know Jackson/Del Toro will be creating 2 films the first will probs show the hobbit storyline with bilbo and dwarves, finding of ring, defeat of smaug etc.

The second will probs explain the departure of Gandalf from the company and where he went...i.e the white council and the driving away of the necromancer (sauron) from dol guldor. the end of the films will then try to bridge the gap between the end of hobbit and beginning of LOTR triliogy.

The Myth: they won't be including any Silmarillion Mythos as it isn't relevant to the hobbit apart from the finding of the ring in gollums cave. There are rumours though that it maybe done as a huge tv Epic detailing each part from the gods creating middle earth through to Feanor and the fall of the city in the mountain and numenor. this could be done in 12 parts from what i've heard but its not definite yet.
