Will Whiplash Be Playing Conan's Daddy?

Apparently Mickey Rourke is being sought after to play Conan's father Corin in Marcus Nispel's upcoming movie..

Latino review have just added this update to their "Jason Momoa as Conan" article.

"I just found out that the offer has gone out to Mickey Rourke to play Conan's dad, CORIN!"

Not much to go on I know! But I have found Latino Review to be pretty reliable with their sources. They broke the Blake Lively for Carol Ferris rumor first among others, so I reckon this is worth keeping an eye on.

As we all know, we will next see Rourke go up against Tony Stark as Whiplash In Iron Man 2. But he is probably most famous for bulking up and knocking us all for a loop with his class performance in The Wrestler. So although a fantasy/sword and sorcery type movie does seem a strange fit for Rourke, I'm sure he could nail it.

I hope Mickey Roarke is investing his money wisely because his resurgence of popularity is going to be over as fast as it started. I also hope I'm wrong.

Well... we could be getting worse. On both accounts. I just wanna see if he can bulk up before shooting. If not, then i'll bitch. As for Rourke, i'm not against it really but Arnie would have been a better choice.

Arnold is a sissy then if your going to use that reasoning. Watch the making of the first Conan all he does is bitch. Don't get me wrong I grew up on the guys movies hell I'm watching Conan right now. Its called acting if you can be a bad ass in a movie thats all that matters.

gtrman you said it yourself "Easy, HE'S a sissy, he didn't play one. Playing one and being one are two different things."

And as far as that Baywatch photo hey we all do some dumb things when were young.

Teabag your right SGA did suck but Mamoa's part was the only thing it had going for it. Otherwise it was the same show as SG1. Hell even Mamoa was just the poor mans Teal'c.

This entire movie needs to be scrapped. Conan is not from the islands. Rourke is cool but were is the tribute to Arnold? Kicks the wall and leaves.

Who cares the movie is going to suck . This guy Jason Momoa never should have been in the running for Conan anyway. He is to small, did the guys making the movie NEVER read the damn books. Come on casting directors need to check out the base for the movie. Find out about the charactors before you try to cast them.

At first I liked the idea of seeing a new Conan movie...then we got to see who they were considering for the lead role. Finally, we see who that cast...

@jman- yeah, toss this one out and move on. Kick the same wall and leaves.

In the grand scheme of all things CBM, a new Conan movie is of very little importance. I bet Conan O'brien could play a better Barbarian than this dude, especially now that he has some anger to channel. Besides, we all know what's best in life, don't we? All together now...What's best in life?

I'm really struggling to stay optimistic about this. I have some early Judgment calls on it and they are none to positive but, I'm holding out on a real opinion til I see some footage after they start filming.

there is nothing the Latino review can EVER say to convince me of ANYTHING on their site.
But if Rourke is in this film then god help us, first we'll have to sit through his TERRIBLE russian accent while he plays jack sparrow on steroids in Iron-Man 2, and then we'll not only have to sit through what is more than likely a TERRIBLE barbarian accent, but we'll also have to see him in a furry LOIN-CLOTH.

better take a bottle of brain-bleach to the theater!

Ahhh, Conan.

Conan's Father: Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts.
[Points to sword] This you can trust.
... and John Milius and Basil Poledouris. God i love that movie.

DAMN PEOPLE ENOUGH WITH BASHING JASON MOMOA, he might be a sissy in real life but he can play a badass character as seen in Stargate Atlantis. Watch the 17th episode of Season 4, "Midway" and you will see how badass Jason Momoa can be! Hes perfect for the role and I dont normally stick up for actors like this, I normally agree with you guys on everything but this time a couple of you are basing your facts on Jason Momoa's role in Baywatch (which I agree every man except the Hoff was a sissy) and the rest fo you are just joining in with the insults

Remaking any classic old movie or franchise is a good thing for all the old fans and potential new ones. Being able to make the movie as good or better is a difficult job or an easy job depending on who has the final say in a lot of the decisions. Casting an actor to fill Arnies shoes would never be an easy job as whoever plays the role of Conan has to convince us he is Conan and replacing Arnie(as he will be compared to Arnie), it should be someone impressive physically and charismatic. This bloke is not Conan, maybe he can play the villain who Conan fights but he looks like he would have trouble punching his way out of a wet paper bag. Maybe the producers should read the Conan books and comics and start looking again for an actor to play Conan otherwise they will kill the franchise before it starts.
