Ghostbusters 3 production to start in May, 2011?

As the production for this highly anticipated film drags on, there is finally some good news for Ghostbusters fans... We hope!

Empire Magazine is reporting that Ghostbusters 3 will be shooting next Spring.

After the usually accurate 'Production Weekly' tweeted:

"Hearing that @SonyPictures is planning to put Ivan Reitman's “Ghostbusters 3” into production in May 2011."

Empire says:

"That's a lot of careful equivocation in a short sentence, suggesting that the film may yet be spirited away from production once again.

But if it's true, it would mean a place for Ray, Peter, Egon and Winston in Sony's 2012 summer roster. It would also mean that Aykroyd's script-tweaking (the story, as far as we know, involves a next generation of Ghostbusters, Dana Barret's son Oscar among them, taking over from the increasingly decrepit originals) has found approval at the studio. Is this a green light we see before us? Should we start calling this Ghostbusters 3D now?"

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I hope it all works out. The originals were a lot of fun and with Ackroyd on the script this one sounds like it could be pretty cool, too. I really hope the original four GB show up, plus Weaver, Potts, and Moranis (if they can get him out of retirement) are a must.

I think we will definitely see this film - Ackroyd is on of the best writers in Hollywood so if they didn't make the film they would be mad!

Oh yeah, they need to bring back Slimer too! Maybe as a mascot or something like the cartoon.

Damn... this is one movie i actually hope gets made in 3D. Could be fun, even though i hate 3D LOL But if Murray ain't in it, i'm out! I also agree with jimoakley666, they better not have Murray in it simply as a ghost, like John Cleese in Harry Potter. But seriously, i really don't get how Murray WOULDN'T be in it, regardless of the reason. If he agrees to be a [frick]ing 5 minute secret agent hidden in a freakin' tree in Get Smart, why the hell would he say no to GB3D?!?!?!

deadpool72- AMEN!!! [frick] i hate MIB with a passion!!!

YES!!! I will do everything as humanly possibly to support this film, it truly is one of my dreams come true! I like the MIB series, but I would sacrifice that and anything else for GB3!!!

I'm kinda scared they're gonna [frick] this one up. They were even talking about putting jack black in it a while back. Great way of raping the franchise :S.

But will it really happen? Will it be better than GBII?

i don't see whats wrong with jack black i mean he's funny. if they can get him seth rogen and ryan reynolds that would be awesome. anyways this is also a dream come true for. i loved the new video game and i will definitely love the movie. i been a GB fan since day one. and yes they should do it in 3D like having a ghost trying to escape out the screen and they capture em with proton pack action and trap action galore. that would fawkin awesome.

If this is true, I hope they don't change the design on the Proton pack. James Franco (Pinapple express,Saul ), Romany Malco(40yr old virgin, Jay), Ed Helms(The hangover, Stu AkA DR.Faggot), and John Cho (Harold and Kumar, Harold).Would be my pick for the new cast. Stay away from Seth Rogen,Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, all those Judd Apatow actors. Except for Leslie Mann I'd like her for the assistant role!
