HARRY POTTER: All Eight Movies Unexpectedly Available To Stream At Launch On HBO Max

We weren't expecting to see any of the Harry Potter movies on HBO Max at launch, but as a very welcome surprise, WarnerMedia has included all eight of them on the newly launched streaming platform...

If you've subscribed to HBO Max today, then you will have more than likely stumbled across an unexpected surprise. Despite speculation that they might not be on there until as late as 2025, all eight Harry Potter movies from The Sorcerer's Stone to The Deathly Hallows Part 2 are now available.

Warner Bros. reached a lucrative deal with NBCUniversal in 2016 which meant they had the rights to the franchise, but something has clearly been worked out behind the scenes.

In recent interviews, HBO Max Content Chief Kevin Reilly has pointed to being uncertain about whether HBO Max would be able to include the movies, and some analysts have pointed to a Peacock debut instead. That's clearly not the case, and it seems as if their place on the platform was kept as a surprise in order to generate as much attention on launch day as possible (it worked).

We don't know what sort of agreement has been reached, but this is huge for HBO Max, and ensures the streaming service has a huge draw right from the start - something it needs to stand out from the crowd. After all, Disney+ and Netflix are killing it right now, and there have already been some hiccups with today's launch with no 4K content currently available to stream for many viewers.

Here's what you can expect to see on HBO Max:

Apparently NBCUniversal held the streaming rights

@regularmovieguy - What else is WB up to "behind the scenes"? Next thing you know Feige will be at WB.

Whoever brokered this deal must be a hero at the AT&T offices now, considering yesterday interviews went out that they were trying their best to get these films on this platform before 2025... guess they stuck to their word.

Having used the service, the best "hub" has gotta be the Turner Classic Movies one. Just a truly insane wealth of great movies on there; the best curation for movies I've seen so far for one of these streaming services.

@tmp3

Was very pleasantly surprised seeing the Harry P collection in here. My roommate and I are going to watch Fellowship of the Ring tonight and finish LOTR this week.

The TCM movies are awesome.

@regularmovieguy - The biggest problem right now is that the DC section is embarrassing. Imagine if they just ported all the DCU content; would have had remastered versions of Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited at launch, and an ongoing with Harley Quinn too.
The TCM selection is crazy! So many movies I've always wanted to cop but haven't had the chance to. Might check out Rebel Without a Cause tonight.

@tmp3

They’re going to have a make a decision regarding the DC content, no doubt. I’m fine with what they have now...but they just need to bring it all in.

Make the DCUniverse app comics/digital comics exclusively. Definitely lacking here. Need BTAS, Reeves-Superman, and the rest of the animated classics and I’ll be better.

I know TDK is on Hulu at the moment. Would be nice having all the Nolan movies on there.

And I will 100% check out RWAC this week. I skimmed TMC and didn’t see that on there so thanks for telling me 🤜🏻
