THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES "Legacy" Trailer

We saw a shorter version in the form of a TV spot, but this nearly 3 minute-long trailer for Peter Jackson's final The Hobbit flick features a lot more footage of classic scenes from The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Prepare to visit Middle Earth one last time after the jump..

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

Nothing like reminding people of the movies that were actually good, so that the current bad movies can get by on nothing but nostalgia! Well played, Peter Jackson. Well played.

...To be clear, I'm mostly joking. That trailer was epic. Well, the LotR parts most definitely were.. And I suppose The Hobbit parts didn't quite show all the awfulness of those movies. Yeah. That's all the compliments I can bear to give out right now about this franchise.

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Americans!

That was an akwardly cut trailer, you can clearly see the easthetic difference between the more gritty realism of LOTR and the soundstage green screened tragedy that are the hobbit films.

Showing me scenes from superior movies isn't exactly the best way to make me want to watch a movie more...

I'm not overly fond of Tauriel and the way she was written into the story, but I get what purpose her character is supposed to serve.

But seriously now - was there really that much need for Grima Unibrow?

@Jollem

It has nothing to do with Marvfel (Well, for me atleast) it's just that the previous trilogy is wastly superior to the current one. I'm not saying Hobbit is a bad trilogy, just was unfortunate to be done after an awesome trilogy like Lord Of The Rings

Yes, the LOTR trilogy is a lot better than what we've seen from The Hobbit trilogy...and that might just have something to do with the books being vastly superior too! I loved The Hobbit as a kid and still have a fondness for it but the fact is it's a pretty basic, averagely plotted, woefully characterized kid's book. IMO Jackson actually improved it. There, come at me Tolkienites!:)

I think I already confirmed that all my many, many problems with the adaptation of one of my favourite books would simply cease to exist the second I saw a Marvel Studios logo at the beginning of one of the movies. Because...

I don't understand the hate towards The Hobbit movies. They're not as epic as Lord of the Rings sure but thats because the book isn't as epic either. I think Jackson has made these movies a little more in tune with Lord of the Rings, adding plot lines that were either only mentioned in The Hobbit or included in the appendices. If he didn't make those alterations we'd get a PG movie that doesn't really fit with the tone of the LOTR movies.

I like the Hobbit films and from what I've seen from the trailers The Battle of The Five Armies will probably be the best of the trilogy!
