BOX OFFICE G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Opens With $2.25M In Midnight Showings
Paramount Pictures' G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens with an impressive $2.25 million in midnight showings last night, making a $50M or more opening weekend more likely.
Paramount Pictures' 3D sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation has opened with a solid $2.25 million from screenings Wednesday night/Thursday midnight. It has been predicted to make anywhere in the $40-50M range this weekend, but may not match the $54.7M opening of 2009's The Rise Of Cobra. However, Paramount seems optimistic that it'll make it to at least $50M. "A little more than we expected. And tracking finished up great," an exec from the studio tells Deadline. "Maybe we do have a shot at $50M in the U.S." The actioner, which features stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis, could also debut with a $100M worldwide gross. Paramount is anticipating a $200M total gross worldwide, more than Rise Of Cobra's $152.3M. Do you plan on seeing G.I. Joe: Retaliation this weekend?
