BOX OFFICE G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Opens With $2.25M In Midnight Showings

Paramount Pictures' G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens with an impressive $2.25 million in midnight showings last night, making a $50M or more opening weekend more likely.

Paramount Pictures' 3D sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation has opened with a solid $2.25 million from screenings Wednesday night/Thursday midnight. It has been predicted to make anywhere in the $40-50M range this weekend, but may not match the $54.7M opening of 2009's The Rise Of Cobra. However, Paramount seems optimistic that it'll make it to at least $50M. "A little more than we expected. And tracking finished up great," an exec from the studio tells Deadline. "Maybe we do have a shot at $50M in the U.S." The actioner, which features stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis, could also debut with a $100M worldwide gross. Paramount is anticipating a $200M total gross worldwide, more than Rise Of Cobra's $152.3M. Do you plan on seeing G.I. Joe: Retaliation this weekend?

I'll give the movie a solid 2.5 out of 5. 1 star for the Rock. 1 star Snake Eyes, .5 for Lady Jaye hot body (would have given it more but the acting was kind of a turn off)

I saw it last night and let me say, if the first one was a phantom menace then retalliation is a new hope.
That how much better it is.

Any one who compares this movie to New Hope should get there head checked, I don't care if your using those two movies as an example to show the jump in quality but I repeat never ever do that again. or YOU'LL NEVERRRR SEEEE MEEEEE COMINGGGG.

If they didn't show it in 3D I would have gone and seen it tomorrow. I can't watch 3D, my eyes hurt to much and I can't concentrate on the movie. So as long as there is only a 3d version showing in my local cinema, I won't be seeing it. =(
But I want to see this movie really bad.

If you don't like big dumb action movies, don't go see it, or whine about it. Do you not understand the genre? Not every movie has to be Dark Knight or Avengers, go watch a fun no brainier movie and have fun with it.

@Hellsing: Lesson #1: The word "quality" used in describing "A New Hope." There is no such thing.

@ pro346

i can think for myself but reviews are good guidelines on whether or not i should waste my time & money on a particular movie that to be honest with you i'm not that interested in.

knock yourself out if you want to see it,i won't be in any rush to see it.

Is low quality action on this one,the 1st one a lot better & spectacular..Why change director to John Chu whose don't really well film action movies?Luckily Dwayne & Bruce starring,if not the boxoffice will totally fail...I hope someone talent like JJ Abrams,Guilermo Deltoro or Stephen Sommers again to take on the director on 3rd episode...I believe the boxoffice gross not only this little...
