Since the start of the second season, Arrow has had no competition when it comes to the comic book TV shows, leaving Agents of SHIELD trailing. The show's expanding faster than the Flash can run and adding more characters than the JLA. So far not much is known about season 2. Warner Brothers have released a few teasers to whet fans appetites. (SOURCE)
The Context
One of these teasers tells us, "Not all hoods are green". While most believe that this means we'll eventually see Roy Harper be trained by the Green Arrow and join him as the Red Arrow, I'm not 100% sold. In the first season we have seen Oliver's green arrows, Huntress' purple arrows and Merlin's black arrows, so wouldn't the line have been better suited, "Not all arrows are red"? Or is Arrow sending Roy towards a different vigilante role?
Who is the RED HOOD?
Back-story time. Jason Todd was the second Robin and the most violent of Batman's sidekicks. He was grumpy, ruthless and battered criminals with less remorse than his mentor.
Eventually Jason was killed by the Joker after Batman failed to save him... But as is the norm in comic book history, Jason didn't stay 6 foot under for long.
Ra's Al Ghul soon used the Lazarus Pit to revive Todd and as you might expect, Robin came out a little bit begrudged at Bruce's failure. Jason ditched the Robin mantle, replacing it with the Joker's former identity, The Red Hood; Going on to become one of DC's greatest anti-heroes.
Roy Harper?
But where exactly does Arrow's Roy Harper fit in? Recently (Most notably Ep 8), Roy has grown tired of sitting on the side as Oliver's unappreciated leech. One line from episode 8 that rings out loud and clear is Roy telling Oliver, "You can't stop me!" before being shot through the knee. Will this be the final straw for Roy? What will he chose? The pistol and mask or the bow and Arrow?
Take what you will from this mini-editorial, at the end of the day it's nothing more than a fan fantasizing. Arrow has gone from strength to strength in the last year and shows no sign of stopping. With talk of Deathstroke on the horizon and Nightwing showing up it seems WB and CW are serious about expanding their universe, let's just sit back and lap it up.
As always, let your thoughts be heard below and don't pull any punches.
