After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

Enjoying this series more and more but have to admit the last couple of episodes have gone a tad stale. I'm hedging my bets that's it's just building up for a massive last couple of episodes.

i dont know how you all can still watch this drudgery. the hollow acting in the episodes I saw was made more painful by the butchery of characterizations to produce "drama" and "realism".

I like the show, but like Amell said it will be cool to get away frim just the seeking vengence. They prob won't call him Green Arrow until he truly is looked at as a hero and not just a vigilante. Also you can't really compare this to smallvile since he's in the suit has his Arrows, and a backstory that involves one of DCs greatest villains. Green Arrow doesn't need a show with people full of superpowers especially since he has none.

As long as they're playing it close to the Mike Grell mold, I wouldn't count on it. When they actually go to that more virtuous, more heroic place, maybe Ollie will think what's become a symbol of justice as opposed to vengeance should have a proper name.

"i dont know how you all can still watch this drudgery. the hollow acting in the episodes I saw was made more painful by the butchery of characterizations to produce "drama" and "realism"."

And another who doesn't actually get that this isn't character butchery but a reasonably accurate reflection of how the character was presented from the late 80's into the early 90's (again, under Mike Grell).

"This show blows donkey balls. It's gonna be just like smallville they will never call him green arrow . Acting will be subpar and they will drag it out forever."

Troll harder. If you've watched, you'll know it's pretty far removed from Smallville (where they did actually call Ollie Green Arrow). Some of the acting could use a bit more polish, and I don't know about forever, but they're hoping to push it for at least five years.

This show is craptastic. I have fun watching it every week just like I did with Smallville. I take it for what it is.

He didn't tease "something beyond vengeance", he just stated how he feels on the matter. I'm not going to lie: the stories on this site are getting lame. I submitted the announcement of who's playing Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movie reboot, and still haven't seen that up yet.

I can never see Paul Blackthorne the same way again! On Arrow he's this intimidating badass American detective and in real life he is this charming British man! Did not see that coming.
TerminalVoyd
TerminalVoyd - 4/7/2013, 12:07 PM
@Noble6

Blackthorne is really versatile. From appearing in Jonathan Creek to ER, to an ex- British agent turned terrorist on 24, to pretty much the one bright spot as the lead in SyFy's abortion of a Harry Dresden adaptation in the Dresden Files, to convincingly scary villain Kadjic on Leverage to Quentin Lance on Arrow, the man delivers the goods.

^ @ Pooh... At least they laid off killing most of the villains right off the bat... lol. They made adjustments to the Detectives dialogue but I still hate the character's guts. Tommy Merlyn seems to be the weakest and whiniest link in the series. The mother... lmao, has her hands deep in the bottom of the cookie jar and that's the kicker in show. Island flashbacks are awesome and the close quarter hand to hand combat are A++.
Pooh
Pooh - 4/7/2013, 8:21 PM
@CharacterAssassin,

Thank goodness they stopped killing off the villains. Without the villains there wouldn't be much of a show.

I agree with you about the detectives dialog. Maybe that's how detectives talk in Canada? I don't know.

Tommy Merlyn's character is diametrically opposed to Oliver's character. I don't see how they ever could have been friends.

I'm not into soap operas, but if Oliver's mother attracts people to the show I guess that's a good thing.

"Never speak of that bastardization of the Dresden Files again. It didn't happen!"

Oh, how I wish it didn't. I can almost stomach the 2 hour pilot (mostly because Blackthorne fits the role and Bob was actually Bob in it) that only actually aired once long after it was chopped up and made part of the TV series (and can only be found online).

It could have been worse. This man is a big fan of Harry Dresden. He's SUCH a big fan that he helped produce the series. In another universe, this face may well have been Harry's on the big screen.

All in all, we got off lucky. Sometimes, I have nightmares though.... God, the nightmares....
