"Supermax" Moving Forward?

"Supermax" Moving Forward?

According to David Goyer it may very well be. MTV have some exclusive news on the potential Green Arrow prison break movie..

News on David Goyer's supervillain prison film, "Super Max." has been pretty much non existent since rumor of the movie broke over a year ago. Originally concieved as a "Green Arrow" story which would see DC's emerald archer plan a prison break with some of DC's most infamous villains such as Joker, Riddler and Lex Luthor.

MTV brought it up when chatting to David S Goyer..

"We're working on that. We're about to bring on another writer," Goyer told MTV News. "Obviously, Warner Bros. is now heavily into mining all of the various DC properties."

"We came up with the idea and thought it could work in either the Marvel or the DC universe," he explained. "It needed that type of character and there are analogues in both universes. Green Arrow seemed to make the most amount of sense."

As for whether "Super Max" is making any forward progress these days, Goyer simply said, "It's definitely something we're developing."

I hope this happens. I was never a huge fan of Green Arrow but have since gained an appreciation for him thorough the JLU cartoon and Smallville of all things! Also, the premise sounds great to me.

What do you think?

I could see how they could have done this with a marvel character instead like Hawkeye.

It sounds cool. I hope they go through with it

I don't get it, maybe i read it wrong, but why is Green Arrow breaking the bad guys out of prison? p.s. im not big on the Green Arrow lore

ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 4:32 PM
Bucky- He is not breaking them out. The premise is that GA gets caught, gets sent to prison, and attempts to escape.

Man I hope this works out.

This has potential to be a very unique take on the genre.

It sounds cool, but that's because the concept is a complete rip-off of Brian Michael Bendis' run on Daredevil, in which Matt Murdock gets outed as Daredevil and gets sent to prison. He has to fight for his life every day and then enlists the aid of the Kingpin and Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher, to break out.

Damn Brent I cant believe I forgot about that storyline and I even have the trade paper back version. I think this storyline was a part of Brubaker's run on the book.

I have been looking forward to this film since it was first announced. I believe the original pitch for this film was prior to the DD storyline that you’re referring to. Also Ollie being trapped in a prison as a hero among villains is an analogy to him being stranded alone on an island. I believe Goyer stated in another interview that it will coincide with flashbacks telling his origin.

doesn't anyone else find it really weird that this is how they plan on intoducing the green arrow to the general public??? this screams sequel to me. and was there not a comic story called super max that this based on?? i thought i read that somewhere a while back on a different site. i'm not a DC fan much less a green arrow fan, so i could be wrong about that.

either way, it sounds kinda dumb to me, he's the green arrow, where is he gonna find a bow and arrow in a super max prison?? and even he did, who's he going to be shooting with it?? guards?? thats not exactly what i would call a super hero...

Brent i never knew that! It does sound suspiciously similar alright. That sounds like something i really should read! Is it good?

@Brent: Never read that one, what's the name of the storyline? I'd love to read it.

DC and Warner Brothers need to get their shit together in order for anything to make sense in the DC universe. I don't see how they could do this movie with Joker, Riddler and Luthor being there without 1st tying in Batman and Supes in previous movies. Although if they want to make it sorta the "real world" this could fit in to the Nolan universe.

Wow... Maybe it would make all the haters happier if they cast Jensen Ackles as GA. No wait how about Nathan Fillion.

I was pumped about this flick but now that Brent has explained that Marvel had the idea first and that Daredevil was imprisoned (which I didn't know) the Daredevil storyline sounds much better and must say I would rather see a flick on that
BillyBlack
BillyBlack - 8/11/2009, 5:32 PM
It would be funny if Marvel got it's shit together an fast tracked that Daredevil story. I'd like to see how DC and Marvel compete with a similar storyline. Maybe one of them will be forced to get it right.
ironknight27
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 5:37 PM
Spideysweb- The story was actually really good. It involved Bullseye and Kingpin.

BillyBlack- I would laugh my a$$ off.

why wouldn't the joker and the riddler be in arkham?? this just sounds worse and worse the more i think about it, lol
ironknight27
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 5:48 PM
Yeah they would put the Joker in Arkham. In the comics I dont think he has been in any other prison including BlackGate. They should do a movie based on the Arkham Asylum Game.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/11/2009, 5:50 PM
I think the Joker, Lex stuff was just part of the original pitch. Obviously an actual script would not be able to include those characters if they are going to be part of other movies...unless they pull their heads out of there ass and cross them over. But i think if iot does happen the villains will prob be the likes of Deadshot, Killer Frost, basically anyone thats going to be part of the Suicide Squad movie that will inevitably follow if Supermax gets made.

spideysweb - 8/11/2009, 5:54 PM
@ironknight, the story sounds great I will need to look into it and see if I can get it. I would love nothing more than for Marvel to fast track the DD storyline and get'er done
ironknight27
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 5:55 PM
Ror-Deadshot against GA would be cool. It would be even better if they could throw in Merlyn or Deathstroke.

Spidey- I think you will dig it.

On a side note, does anyone know if marvel ultimate alliance is 2 players? My 9yr wants a game that we can both play. He's into superheroes so I thought this would be a good one to get
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/11/2009, 6:47 PM
@ spidey

Ultimate alliance will definately be 2 players! all of the games they made like this have been, plus it can be played online. i would recommend getting the first one, its only 15 bucks used at gamestop and its fantastic! it'll at least hold you over until the new one comes out!!!

also i would love a civil war movie, but it would probabl be impossible, at least for now, i thought civil war was the best series to come out in a VERY long time, it was just epic, and i wouldn't want them to make one until they had the rights back for all the important characters, like the fantastic four, luke cage, and so on. but man that would awesome!

MarkCassidy - 8/11/2009, 7:06 PM
Civil War would be [frick]ing amazing if done right but i think the best we can hope for is an animated movie, at least for the foreseeable future. Marvel seem to be finally getting their act together with animated movies. Plnet Hulk looks great, hopefully their will be World War Hulk next..then who knows!

wentworth miller for green arrow. he has a great history of breaking out of prison :)

that daredevil story actually sounds like a good sequel. it could be like the incredible hulk, a reboot but not a reboot. if they start out with him going to prison it could technically follow up the end of the 1st daredevil yet be an entirely new cast etc....

ive been waitin for more news on this film for wut seems like forever now, and now, here is some of it. lol. i do remember hearing somewhere that lex, riddler and joker were not in the recent script, so theres that. i think this could be a very good film, but after an origin story. also, the idea for this film was concieved before the story in daredevil. i just hope that they dont still wanna go wit the guy they said they wanted to play mr oliver queen...a brad pitt! i heard awhile ago that is who they were interested in getting for the part!!

woo hoo!

AxlKomix - 8/11/2009, 8:27 PM
This should be a sequel story. If this is how people are introduced to Ollie, then they are gonna be lost. You could flash back to the origin all you want, but the orgin doesn't establish the character. It's what the character does due to the origin that makes the story.

@roar, you know an animated civil war movie could really rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's hope someone at Marvel is listening.

@corndog, thanks for the info on alliance. I have a PS3 so I think I might just get it and check it out.
