Green Lantern Movie Writer To Start Writing Superman Comics

Will a new Superman movie be on the horizon?

"Green Lantern" and "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds isn't the only guy pulling double duty with some of comics' most popular characters these days. Next year, "Green Lantern" movie (and former "FlashForward" television series) co-writer Marc Guggenheim will jump into the driver's seat on DC's "Action Comics" series and script the adventures of the Man of Steel himself, Superman.

With DC already announcing that its next big event will kick off in 2010 with the title "War of the Supermen," it looks to be a big year for Kal-El. I caught up with Guggenheim to get more details on his upcoming debut as the regular writer on one of the industry's longest-running series, and what he has planned for one of the world's most popular superheroes.

I don't think it means anything other than Guggenheim will be writing some Superman comics, but who knows?!

Curious as to the affects of the Siegel case against WB/DC will play into this.

Maybe it will put Superman back in the Spotlight, leading to further interest in making a movie asap.

Huh, is this why Marc Guggenheim left Amazing Spider-Man? I thought it was because of his committments to (the excellent) FlashForward but as he's left that show now I guess this must be why!

Regardless I dont think this means anything other than the GL writer is writing some Superman comic books but who knows! Guggenheim is a decent writer so if he can bring some attention to the cahracter and increase the chances of Superman getting a movie then I say, hell yeah! :)

If Guggenheim writes and Abrams directs, i think we'd be in store for a kick ass Superman film! Hopefully he'll prove himself in the character's comics first. I can't wait to see what the man's got with the Green Lantern feature film!

Well, Geoff Johns is writing 'Superman: Secret Origins', but yeah, I'm a huge fan of his 'Green Lantern' work too, so it'd be cool if he did become a regular writer for Superman.

KalEl84,
What's your opinion of Johns making the comic version appear like Christopher Reeve? It doesn't bother me as it may others. In some way, I think its very endearing of his memory for pulling off one of the most significant characters in one of the most significant CBMs ever made. But the other side says, Christopher Reeve does not (and should not) hold the standard for what Supes should look like.

Phinehas. I actually like it a lot myself. I know people get sick of all of the homage that's paid to 'Superman: The Movie', but if not for that film, then who knows if there'd even be a Superman film franchise at all. However, I do think that the art on Clark as a kid looks a little weird, but I can get past that.

KalEl84-
I second that. I can get past it too. Why should he look perfect all the time?
