The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special ends on a touching note with the team exchanging gifts as they celebrate Christmas on Knowhere. With that, writer and director James Gunn pays off one of Avengers: Infinity War's funniest moments.
One of the best things about the 2018 movie was seeing Earth's Mightiest Heroes cross paths with the Guardians, especially as the characters had never shared the screen before.
During the final battle in Wakanda, Bucky met Rocket and used the blaster-toting alien to gun down the attacking Outriders. The Guardian offered to buy the former Winter Soldier's gun, only to be quickly turned down. When he then asked about Bucky's arm, the hero walked away, leaving Rocket to vow that he would one day get his hands on it.
Since The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special hit Disney+, fans have questioned how Nebula managed to acquire Bucky's arm, especially as it's clearly the Vibranium model he's most recently used in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Well, Gunn has now offered an explanation, and it doesn't sound like the former HYDRA assassin parted ways with his appendage willingly!
Responding to a troll on Twitter whining about "forced inclusion," Gunn said: "I'm not sure how a cyborg with advanced alien technology tearing off a human's arm because of an overabundance of Christmas-Spirit is forced inclusion, but now it's canon sorry."
We can't help but wonder whether this will be referenced in Thunderbolts, but it's probably not something to be taken too seriously. This was a great Easter Egg, though, and a nice way to tie the Special into Rocket's history with Earth's Mightiest Heroes (he was a full-fledged member of The Avengers at one point).
