Don't Expect To See KANG THE CONQUEROR In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Kang the Conqueror has caused the Avengers some major pain throughout the years and while it would certainly be a treat to see that translate to the big screen, based on recent comments by Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 director James Gunn, it doesn't look like it'll happen anytime soon!

After the immense success of Marvel's space epic Guardians Of The Galaxy, which grossed a cool $774M, last year, its sequel quickly became one of the more hotly anticipated films of 2017 and of Marvel's Phase 3 in general. Director James Gunn only recently began working on the script, and has been fairly open about his process, teasing fans with vague hints about potential new cosmic characters, which may or may not include Nova and/or Adam Warlock. Considering his last film included a cameo by Howard the Duck, it's probably safe to say, Gunn is open to including any cosmic character he can get his hands on to make Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 even better than the original.

However, based on a recent Facebook reply by Gunn, it looks like there may be a few characters he won't get a chance to play with anytime soon. Actually, to be perfectly blunt, it looks like one major Avengers villain and one major alien race won't be setting foot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the foreseeable future. Check out his reply below:

So, yeah, the rights to both Kang the Conqueror and the Shi'ar belong to 20th Century Fox, which considering Kang's familial ties to the Fantastic Four makes sense, but it is somewhat discouraging as Kang is also one of the Avengers more formidable foes. However, there may be a potential silver lining as having the rights to both Kang & the Shi'ar could potentially open up a cosmic universe for the X-Men and/or the Fantastic Four. It would certainly be an interesting path to take following Bryan Singer's sure-to-be epic X-Men: Apocalypse.

Even though, it is certainly disappointing, not all hope should be lost as this could always turn out to be a shared rights situation, similar to how Marvel was able to use the Kingpin while Sony also holds the character's rights. Also, as far as we know, Marvel also currently shares the rights to mutant twins Quicksilver & the Scarlet Witch with Fox.

What do you guys make of this revelation? Sound off with your thoughts below!
