Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 just had another awesome weekend, despite being knocked from the top spot by the newly released Fast X.
With a drop of only -48.4%, James Gunn's threequel earned $32 million to take its current domestic total to $266.5 million. Based on these figures, the expectation now is that its U.S. run will conclude with a $335 million - $360 million haul.
This is a pretty incredible result, particularly as the weeks ahead are going to be incredibly busy for theaters. With The Little Mermaid, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and The Flash all on the horizon, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will soon have fewer screens to play on, making these predicted figures all the more impressive.
As things stand, it may well prove to be the biggest hit of the summer.
With a strong $48.8 million third weekend overseas (a -47.2% drop), the movie has earned $392.6 million internationally for a worldwide total of $659.1 million. At this rate, Vol. 3 will blast past $700 million this coming weekend for an eventual global haul of $830 million - $930 million.
Had it not been for all that pesky competition, the latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie may well have topped $1 billion. As things stands, though, it will be Marvel Studios' biggest hit since last May's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($955.8 million).
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
