Last year, one of the most unexpected casting announcements for Guardians of the Galaxy was certainly acting veteran Glenn Close, who is now part of the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nova Prime Irani Rael. Speaking with USA Today about her supporting role in the film, the six-time Academy Award-nominated actress says she likes to think that anything's possible. "It reminded me of the original Star Wars in that it introduced this great cast but it also had this offhand 'We don't take ourselves so seriously' aspect of it," she said. "You don't only get introduced into this wonderful world that has a look all unto its own, but the characters make you laugh. You feel some sort of empathy toward them, and people love that and want it." Glenn Close says she especially loved the sci-fi aspect filming Guardians and being informed by director James Gunn to imagine a holographic battle scene taking place before her. "It's like what we used to do when we were kids: Let's pretend," she says. "For me with acting, I take it to its basic: It's literally playing. Even in the darkest thing, you have to know how to play as an actor and an artist. These movies really bring that out in people."

Glenn Close then admits that, due to her many serious roles of late, she is not offered fun roles like Nova Prime very often, so she does remain open to them when they come around. "I just have to let people know that I always have been up for anything. I love to do stuff that's different. That's what I love," says the actress. Later during the interview, Close also admits that, with Nova Prime's dark eyes and red lipstick, she was worried she'd look too much like her 101 Dalmatians character Cruella De Vil. However, she was quite fond of her Marvel character's specially designed wig which reminded her of Saturn's rings. "It's so out there, I don't know if people will like this one, but it's really great," she says of the hairdo. "Now I've really bought into it. This is a great sculpture, a whimsy on my head. I like to think that Nova Prime has that in her, and hopefully we'll be able to see that in the future." Speaking of the future, which will see James Gunn's sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy  release on July 28, 2017,  Glenn Close reveals she's game to reprise her role. "When you play a character who they love and are amused by," she says, "hopefully they'll see more of you. Especially at this point in my career, it's fantastic. To be in the beginning of literally a whole new universe for people is really fun." What do you think?

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014

They didn't mention the Worldmind, did they? Think the Power-stone will take it's place as their source of power and help them rebuild...

Glenn Close is such a diva. She's awesome, and can play everything and be great in the character. I hope we'll see her in the next GotG movie.

Comedy this funny that. Why is everyone so obsessed with comedy? Its not a requirement at all for a movie to be good.

Good for her!

Even though I feel as if most of her scenes were cut (and understandably so), I believe she did a great job in what scenes her character did have in the film.

As for the sequel, I wouldn't mind seeing her suit up, the MCU needs some wiser experienced superheroes, anyway (not a jab).
